Combined with Thurston  Sucess!

Drove up from Bountiful, past Bountiful Peak, to the FAA towers. Did a quick little summit of Francis before heading over the ridge to Thurston.

Three's Company  Sucess!

Hit Francis on the way back from Thurston + Peak 9491. One of the prettiest sunsets I've seen in a long while! My stomach was getting super angry, though. More food next time.

Do this first!  Sucess!

We parked at the south base of Francis and headed over to Thurston Peak. On the way back we hit 9471 and then came up the north ridge of Francis. That was tiring after the other two peaks! The views are beautiful as we watched the sunset over the Great Salt Lake. Some people were having a date on top and eating Chick-fil-a. I wanted to steal those criss-cut fries so bad. So hungry!

From Thurston and Friends  Sucess!

Everyone should try this peak after they have hit Thurston and unnamed peak 9471, or whatever it is. It's even better after sunset when you haven't eaten anything since brunch. Also, the summit balls are probably the best thing ever. Summit balls.

Re: From Thurston and Friends

I am replying, because your comment about the summit balls made me lol.

Run to the balls  Sucess!

Ran with Matt Van Horn all the way up Farmington Canyon to the summit balls and back for 22 miles. I've run just under the summit 3 times during the Wasatch 100. One of the coolest things for me during the race is approaching the summit balls from the north and then running under them and to the south. When I'm over near Grandview Peak on the ridge I love looking back and seeing how far away those summit balls are.

Via Baer/Bair Canyon  Sucess!

Via Baer/Bair Canyon

Went up the Baer/Bair Canyon Trail and then turn south on the Great Western Trail to Francis Peak. The snow line was about 7200', but it was just a few inches until the GWT. The GWT had drifts up to knee deep, but if I walked at the sides it was only about 6" or so. After Francis I walked north on the GWT to 9491. The snow was only a few inches deep in that direction. The ridge was completely socked in in the morning, but fortunately it cleared and there were great views in all directions.

Up I Go

09/20/13 Biked from where the road divides to go to Francis or Bountiful. After ticking Francis continued on to Thurston. My dog Nebo did the whole thing with me

Trailhead  Sucess!

Drove up Farmington Canyon to just below the summit of Francis. From there followed the ridge to Thurston Peak.

Francis  Sucess!

I've been to Francis Peak several times. During my first trip, there were large snowdrifts on the ridge, that lasted well into July. I've also hiked to the top from Baer Canyon which is accessible all year.

Just Drive Already  Sucess!

Attempted from both Baer and Kayscreek...got distracted and didn't get there. Finally just drove up Farmington Canyon and took the short walk to the top.
