Cucamonga Truck Trail  Sucess!

Still overgrown, washed out, and swarming with gnats. A surprising little adventure in the frontcountry. Didn't find the register up top.

Use Trail from Mountain Avenue  Sucess!

The use trail is a fun steep northeasterly scramble with endless bushwhacking. Once you gain the ridge you follow a few bumps east to the summit. Enjoyed a nice sunset and raced back to beat the darkness with no success. It was fully night for the last half of the return.

From Mountain Avenue  Sucess!

Parking where the page author suggests now requires a permit, which cost $20 when I was going to attempt this hike in April 2018. Signs said vehicles without permits could get towed. The people living in the Million dollar homes don't want the riff-raff around. Hiked up use trails from Mountain Avenue. It ended up being about 2.3 miles and 1900 feet elevation gain. Glad I got this one crossed off the list. Summit register was located a little east of the given waypoint for the peak.

With Stoddard Peak  Sucess!

After grabbing Stoddard, continued southward on the road and approached summit cross-country via east ridge.

Barrett-Stoddard Road  Sucess!

Pleasant hike along the road after Stoddard until the junction with W. Cucamonga Truck Trail. The road was pretty overgrown from the junction to the summit, but not hard to follow. Didn't find a summit register. Took the east fire break down to the saddle w/P3856. Finished the day on Potato Mountain.

Intense Bushwacking!  Sucess!

Frankish was our second peak on a "2-fer" outing. Rode Mountain bikes from Barrett-Stoddard Rd. Hiked up on foot to Stoddard Peak from Stoddard Flat. From the top of Stoddard, we saw what looked like a developed, graded access road to the summit of Frankish. We decided to bring the bikes to the top of Frankish so we could ride down. We discovered that there is a road but it hasn't been maitained in decades. We ended up doing some serious bushwacking through Sage & Buckthorn that was over our heads. Fun ride down!!! Exited via Cucamonga Canyon.

Thorn bushes!  Sucess!

Did the trail with my Dad from Barrett-Stoddard road that leads to the Barrett-Stoddard truck trail then on to the summit. Totally underestimated the difficulty of this hike for an out of shape weekend warrior. Lots of very hot sun, knats, and flies along this route. Towards the top of the summit the trail was completely overgrown with spiky bushes causing us to have to find another way. We found a good place to scramble to the top. On the way down we tried some direct line hiking and headed straight down the north side. It went very well till the bottom when we hit more spiky bushes that we had to crawl through. We were pretty scratched up. We made it but this was a tough hike! That trail needs some pruning. Glad I did it!

From Stoddard  Sucess!

After Stoddard, continued on to Frankish. Cool views of the cloud blanket covering the basin.

Enjoyable hike  Sucess!

Fun hike; lots of brush in some areas once you get off the truck trail, yet manageable. Nice view in all directions, particularly of ontario peak and cucamonga peak.

Foggy Sept Climb  Sucess!

Great hike. Heavy brush once you head south from the truck trail.

Challenging hike from Mountain Avenue

I knew the trail was steep but was still surprised with how difficult it was. Good workout though, definitely helped me develop my off-trail skills.

License plate  Sucess!

I once went as a teenager with a friend right up the south side of Frankish. We bushwacked right up some of the steep ridges. Not far below the summit I found an old license plate from 1932. My father still has it in his garage. We had hiked the road to the top a few years before.

Fun Day  Sucess!

Hiked Frankish with my dad via The Cucamonga Truck Trail. The views from the top were awesome. We mixed it up and descended the east ridge from Frankish. We took a left before the last bump in the ridge, and ended up bushwhacking through these annoying prickly plants..not a good idea. All-in-all an exhausting, but fun day.

Rainy Day  Sucess!

It was a wet cloudy day from Mt. Baldy Road including Stoddard for about a 14 mile day in just over four hours. Views were non-existent.

Local Love  Sucess!

You know I am successful. I hiked this.

Really Wet!  Sucess!

A crazy rainy day, long muddy miles along fireroads , from the top all i could see was rain. a crazy day. since the fires in 2003 there are several open ridgelines and slopes routes. the sw ridge from the baldy dam area is probably the best. 2400ft gain give or take 200ft
