Franz Jozef Glacier

Franz Jozef Glacier

The Franz Jozef glacier. You can see bedding planes on the rock in the foreground. Because they are going from bottom to top it shows the rock is tilted to vertical. New Zealand, Southern Island

striations?

the "striations" on the rock in the foreground look like bedding planes. Are we talking about different things?

Re: striations?

mmm i don't know. A bedding plane is cessation of deposition at that location for a period of time. I mean with striations that they were carved out by the glacier, in that case they are not bedding planes..
But entirely sure...I'm not!
Cheers!

Beautiful picture whatever it is.

Nice to see realistic glacier pictures. I know, blanked in pristine white is beautiful and one part of reality, but the grubby working glacier pictures are cool too.

Maybe there are striation like features in the lower right foreground.

Great "blue collar glacier" image.

Yes I agree! It's cool to see pics of the glacier 'at work'!
Thanks a lot for your comment!
