Pretty good day out on Casco, Frasco and French.
Great fall day.
Beautiful day. We could have spent all day up there. Fun climb but a long hike out on the road at the end. We never saw anyone else except those on Elbert.
A great solo from North Fork Lake. Blue skies & sun, sleet, more blue skies, whiteout, blue skies and thunder snow....an interesting finish to the official summer season.
Nice tour of 13ers, I only saw 2 other people all day!
The end of the trifecta (Casco and Frasco). Interesting views of the back side of Elbert. And if you looked really hard you might see summiters on Elbert.
10/27/07 - Nice little fall solo hike. Standard Roach route from Halfmoon TH. Some new snow to deal with, but not too bad.
1/19/14 - Via Echo Canyon. A wind scoured line provided an avy safe path to the Bull Hill/Casco saddle and we ran the ridge over Casco and then out and back to French (over Frasco both ways). Quite a long day in winter and the ridge was more interesting than I remembered.
We climbed Frasco & French together from Halfmoon Creek trailhead.
Hiked up South Halfmoon Creek, over a few inches of packed snow. South slopes above treeline were completely clear. We left the road early and bushwacked through the willows, then up the easy South slope. Finished with a traverse over to Frasco and Casco. http://www.ericjlee.com/Photos/071102%20FrenchMt/index.php
Dragged ass to the top in windy but otherwise perfect weather. My 45th centennial.
Hiked French then traversed all the way over to Lackawanna for a cool car shuttle. Great views of Elbert & Massive on French.
Summited French along with Frasco and Casco from Halfmoon Road. French Mountain had one of the better summit panorama's I've seen.
The river crossings were high and wet. The scree slope to the Casco/Frasco saddle was nasty. The traverse to French somewhat fun. All said it was a great outing. Also climbed Casco on this trip.
From Casco Peak and Frasco Benchmark. 5:58 roundtrip.
The valley looked golden due to the willows changing colors. This was a very nice hike filled with solitude (no one all day). Highly recommended.
Combination with Frasco Benchmark and Casco made a nice circle tour.
Please see my trip report entitled "The San Francasco Treat"
Lovely approach from the west. Summited Casco Peak first. Fun ridge traverse from Casco to Frasco, quick and easy after there. Bombarded by hail on the return. A large church group from Texas climbed French Mtn earlier in the summer - I think they came up from the east side, which is shorter and easier.
