Approach

You start normally this route from Štrbské Pleso (how to get there see the main page of Satan).

Route Description

From Štrbské Pleso take a yellow-marked trail and follow it to Mlynická Valley, walk past a charming waterfall “Skok” (1 h 30 min) and go till an upper part of the valley to Nižne Kozie Pleso (1 h).

Here leave the marked route and turn right (east) and climb up by a huge scree area in Satan’s wall direction. Just before an end of this scree it starts a wide, scree-rocky ramp, which goes on right under Satan’s walls. Follow this ramp to the end to the first big couloir, which in lower part tears off by a precipitous step.

Climb up this couloir, through a few steps and when it becomes wider and divides choose left branch and climb near to the Satan’s south ridge. A few meters below the ridge turn left to a grassy-scree chute and follow it on the south summit of Satan (2 h). If you want also visit the north summit turn left and climb by the ridge on a second top (10 min).

In winter

in winter full winter equipment is needed for the climb - crampons, ice ax. Rope may be needed to secure yourself.
