from the west slope of Little Chief Mountain

After traversing across a large drainage, I was greeted with this spectacular view of the area far above Virgina Falls. Almost-a-Dog Mountain is at left, with Blackfoot Glacier at the center of the photo. Just to the right, the snowy summit of Mount Jackson peers over the shoulder of Citadel Mountain. At far right in shadow is Dusty Star Mountain. The massive waterfall draining from Blackfoot Glacier Basin is unnamed, and no maintained trails lead anywhere within the area. Fascinating to see such a wild, untamed valley just a few miles south of Going-to-the-Sun Road! July 12, 2010
