Gambel Oak

Gambel Oak in autumn colors photographed on route to North Peak. Red Rocks, Nevada 2006. Quercus gambelii is a deciduous small tree or large shrub often also called scrub oak, oak brush or white oak. It is an important food source for browsing animals. Acorns are frequently gathered by squirrels and stored for winter food. Gambel oak was named after the American naturalist William Gambel (1821–1849).
