Thanks! I wore 5.10 Insight cross-training shoes. I rubbed a small bit of skin off my right achilles tendon, but otherwise they worked perfectly. They also worked decently well in crampons - the crampons didn't rub my ankles as raw as they did with other shoes.
You're slippin from a Burdesque effort. You didn't even average 2 mph. ;-) Just kidding--what a trip, and trip report. I'd have been cowering in the bivy sack after 15 hours. You and Dirk need to try Black Kaweah as a dayhike now.
hehe, you know, I had planned on a timetable with 2mph as our minimum speed, which was why we were constantly behind after Bonney Pass. We actually averaged just under 4mph on the approach and about 2.5-3mph hiking out on the trail, but the cross-country took for ever!
Thanks! Actually I've always had bad knees (made worse by ACL surgery), but the trail and cross-country allowed for a kind form in my stride :-D In fact, Mt Florence on Bob Burd's Sierra Challenge left me feeling much worse than this effort did, even though the distance and elevation gain were far less.
my last trip was only 22.5 hours. I think an extra hour would have killed me so kudos to you! Sounds like you guys kept up a bionic pace. I'm tired just reading it!
Thanks! The trip was very wierd in that the next few days afterward I didn't feel all that sore or tired! I had also expected to be hallucinating a bit near the end (like I have in similarly tiring efforts), but I actually began feeling better as time went on on the trail, apart from my sore toes.
ahh, bad news - Joel and I gave into laziness and backed off the WURL for the current trip. The idea of hanging out at the Salt Lake Roasting Co. and cragging in the Cottonwood Canyons were too tempting. Perhaps next year?
but you and joel had better give a slideshow! i did it in 3 days years ago, we climbed the rock on the left instead of the couloir 'cause i was scared of steep snow -

hmm, nice idea! Let's arrange something for CHAOS. This weekend I should be finishing up my Alaska grant report of my time there in June, so perhaps we could arrange a joint showing?
Wow! Congrautlations on a super-human accomplishment! Way to go. Closest I've ever come the this was 21 hours of pretty continuous movement on Sir Donald, but that was nowhere near as much distance. Can't even begin to imagine how much your feet must have hurt at the end - though I've come to learn that is it's own sort of zen. Kudos dude!

sweet effortGood detail on the routes and it is quite informative for one that wants to do this at this time of year. Maybe not in a day! Burly!

IncredibleThat takes great physical conditioning, and perfect knees. I'm almost in disbelief on both counts. Congratulations on a great accomplishment.

sqrt(1 + (v/c)^2) ?Fast!
Did you account for relativistic effects in calculating the time?

Well done!A nice rebuttal, and what a contrast, to my Gannett Peak, The Easy Way trip report. We took a more leisurely pace; 6 days. I tip my hat to you Mark!
