After completing the drive to the top of Palomar, I headed over to the Laguna Mountains to complete this short hike before driving to my work retreat. This was a nice short hike, albeit a bit hot, with spectacular views in all directions. Winter would be ideal rather than June, but it's a fair ways from San Diego and I never seem to have enough time, so I decided to do it now rather than wait for the perfect conditions to hike it.
Very nice little hike to one of the best views in San Diego county!
Peak #5 of my California thanksgiving vacation trip
hiked this with mebo1126, our third peak of the day. met some nice people on the top and had a great time.
Climbed this peak with McMurdoSound in conjunction with Monument Peak, Spontaneity Peak (self-named because this peak didn't have one), and Garnet Mountain. It was a fun day!
Gorgeous day, perfect hike, awesome mountain. Really a great and easy place to climb.
This was my first ascent of my 2012 thru hike.
Got to the top for sunrise which was awesome. The views down the escarpment are really cool.
Part of an 8-peak SDC weekend. Impressive views. <1hr RT.
with Jules, Katy & Joe
HPS peak #3 of 7 for the day. Took Jon Barbour on his first peak-o-rama. Not sure if he'll be doing it again!
Went up Garnet while I was hiking on the Pacific Crest Trail last summer. Awesome views all the way down to the desert floor.
Great hike and views, best in San Diego County so far. Trip Report
Again, one of those spur of the moment ideas....Joan and I decided to do a quick trip from San Diego and chose this peak. No views, but we had snow all the way. No one else around.
Fantastic view of the Anza-Borrego area. Could see San Gorgonio with snow on top.
Wow, one of the best peak views I've seen in Southern CA.
6 inches of fresh snow, beautiful, first did Garnet Mountain then Garnet Peak. Outstanding views. My micro HPS quest is over for now. 1993-2007 chasing old Sam Fink. What a fun journey. Thanks Sam
Took the longer PCT route from the picnic area to the north hoping to see more of the desert and the escarpment along the way. Not too many extra views unfortunately. Wife and I enjoyed the ~6 mile walk though in great weather.
The girl actually went along on this one (no, I didn't pay her!). The views into Anza are unbeatable. I've heard that one can see the "green flash" at sunrise from Garnet. Anyone?
Did Schad's Indian Creek Loop from Penny Pines TH, hit Garnet near the end. Fantastic view from the eastern escarpment out over the desert. Some bird whizzed up one side of the peak and down the other so fast you could hear a loud FFttZZFFFTZZWWHHCYZTZZZZ... badass! Saw Acorn Woodpeckers, Turkey Vultures, and Red-Tail Hawks. Heard single bullfrog at Indian Creek crossing. Dodged dozens of mountain bikers on Noble Canyon trail.
