Great loop or simple up and down. The stinger at the end to the summit can be a little painful but it's a super local peak!

Holiday trip to Santa Barbara
w/ Maddie. Once to the saddle, we took the fire road all the way out to peak 2856...it was pretty overgrown up there. Then took the fire road back the way we came and hit Gaviota. Warm, sunny December day with clear ocean views.

Gaviota Peak loop
Took the hot springs trail to the hot springs and then followed a use trail to where it intersects the fire road trail to the top. Stunning evening view. Descended the Trespass Trail on The way out which offered more views and narrower trails.
The Trespasser trail on the way down was fun and scenic compared to the road slog on the way up. The brush is cut back fairly well so it was no problem with shorts on when I did it.

Road
Kind of a boring hike on the road, but the views really open up as you climb higher.

Start early
Start early in the day to avoid the hot sun. Slow ans steady does it.
Beautiful coastal views. Love hiking in Santa Barbara and I look forward to it again. Make sure your dog is up-to-date on flea/tick treatment. There are tons of ticks.

No pain, no gain
This was a tough hike up, but the summit was well worth it. Gorgeous ocean views on a beautiful day in southern California.
