pilfered sling  Sucess!

I did this route today as a solo Mission in running shoes. I didn't do much research before going and it is just as well, because I probably would not have opted for the route if I'd had all the details. At the first main rappel, I pilfered one of the newer lengths of webbing, which will probably hurt my climbing karma, but I thought that having some length of anything with me might come in handy. There are still half a dozen slings at that rappel point, but some of them are clearly old and no longer reliable. anyone who is not willing to test their luck should pack a length of about 12 feet with them. But i did find a handy way to get around the rappel to the north by way of downclimbing about 50 feet to a narrow ledge which leads to the notch at the base of the rappel. It was on this downclimb that I employed the sling by hanging it off a spike so that I would have something to hold onto if my feet slipped on a tougher section. The second rappel can be even more easily got around to the right of the rappel anchor. Anyway, my brother's wife went to the hospital just about the same time I started in the morning - she had gone into labor. The child was born about :40 after I reached the summit. A healthy baby boy!! Beautiful climb!!! A wonderful day!

Fun Scramble  Sucess!

Did this route on Memorial Day 2013. It was great to get off the tourist trail and to the have ridge to ourselves. Fun scramble, I felt like it was mostly class 4 with a couple of rappels. Worth doing. "Pro" is not needed and a 30m rope would be plenty for the rappels.

Fun climb. Perfect weather today!  Sucess!

We used a 30m rope for the climb. We brought a second just in case. But it turns out a 30m is enough for the rappels. So save some weight and bring the 30m. Great views. Fun climbing. There appears to be a fantastic arete dropping north off of the lower Guert's Ridge. I'll have to make it back next summer.

How do you pronounce "Guerts"?  Sucess!

Climbed with Joseph and Shelley Bullough and Robert Koch on a beautiful, hot day. This was Gristle's 100th time on top of Oly. I added some images.

Short fun scramble  Sucess!

The only real need for ropes is the rappels, but this was a fun route and I hope to do more on olympus i.e. West slabes, great chimney, kamps ridge
