Ghostly Row of Teepees

Ghostly Row of Teepees

Like Ghosts in a dream, petrified teepees rise out of the desert near the Fossil Springs Road in central Arizona. Water is thought to have "percolated" through several layers of limestone, eroding the rock into bizarre shapes. When I took this picture, smoke was drifting in from a prescribed burn, making the landscape appear to be surreal at best. Nope, I don't think this came from the movie, "Jason verses Freddie!!!" Classic Towers

No doubt a beautiful piece of karst characteristic of limestone or tuff country. It seems if you were several (m) years older Larry, you would've experienced a wet Arizona.
BTW Are those small mounds in the other picture I thought might have been quarried somewhere to the right here?

Re: Classic Towers

Yes, these mounds or "teepees" have taken on a
characteristic all their own!

IMHO, I wish I could have been born 2,000 years ago. Of course, that was before cameras were invented. : )))

You are very correct, Jacek! Those are the same mounds from the previous photo. This place is NOTHING but mounds, for as far as the eye can see! It's a very different landscape from what it WAS several thousand years ago!!!

Re: Classic Towers

No problem! The towers deserve the attention.
I am just the man holding the camera.

Cheers, Larry
