Giant Forest & dogwood

Giant Forest & dogwood

...mouse click to enlarge... May of 2007, I made a road trip to Sequoia National Park in order to capture blooming dogwood trees with giant sequoia. Here California dogwood, cornus nutallii, also known as Pacific dogwood were peaking with their huge white sepal blooms in front of one of the denser groves of giant sequoia, sequoia gigantea, in Giant Forest. The usual problem with such subjects are they are down at the bottom of deep shadowy forests where light is weak and contrasty. However on this afternoon I was lucky to have near ideal overcast light above from cumulus cloud buildups. I waited until well after 6pm to expose this 4x5 transparency sheet of Provia 100F with my 90mm Caltar large format lens. This was in order to maximize warmer light coming in from frame left that helped more richly bring out the red hues in the sequoia bark. The image will be available as Lightjet fine art print via Gallery B on my below homepage. David Senesac Photography http://www.davidsenesac.com
