Chilly  Sucess!

Lost the trail a couple times, not too big a problem when your destination is a giant pile of rock. Had to switch out handwarmers and toewarmers halfway through, never done that before. Not a lot of people out there this late in the year either

Perfect leg-stretch after packing in to Dollar Lake  Sucess!

Straightforward, lots of easy walking across gentle tableland, with a bit of talus near the summit. Nice quick escape from the Dollar Lake/Henrys Fork crowds.

Gilbert  Sucess!

11/15/2016 Miserably windy, but otherwise nice.

4/20/2012 Warm, windy, and socked in.

4/7/2012 Skied via Joulious creek. I was wondering why it seemed harder than I remembered it and then I noticed that one of my kicker skins was missing. I toughed it out and found the skin on the way back. Grr.

4/16/2011 WMC ski trip led by Mike Berry. It was very windy and the summit was mostly socked in.

3/10/2011 Skied via Joulious Creek to about a mile of the summit and had to boot the rest because it was so rocky. The wind was extreme on the top but fortunately it was a warm day. Most of the way was fine, but there were times when I was sinking in to my knees with the skis on. 9 hrs up and 5 down, 21 miles RT. The first 2.8 miles were broken, but then I was on my own.

7/1/2010 Started from the Hole-in-Rock Road west of Bullocks Park along some long abandoned logging roads. Bushwhacked to Joulious Park and then followed the trail along Julious Creek as best as I could to treeline. Then took off for the summit. Most of the time the weather was nice but some of the time it was down right nasty. It was so windy and hailing so hard that it felt like someone was shooting at me with a BB gun at the rate of 100 BB's per second.

5/25/2010 Skied to the top with Mike Berry via Joulious Creek. We were able to drive all of the way to Joulious Creek, but there was a price to pay in that the start was a mix of bare ground and snow which was grueling on the way back, but other than that the trip was perfect. 5:45 to the top, :30 on top, and 3:10 back to the car for a RT time of 9:25. The weather was stellar and we had great views with no haze whatsoever.

5/14/2010 Skied 20 miles RT via Joulious Creek, breaking trail the whole way. I had hoped to be able to drive further, but only made it .8 miles from the winter parking area. At the beginning of the day I was worried all the snow on the road would melt and I'd be walking 2.5 miles in ankle deep mud back to the car. Somewhere along the way after several hours of heavy snow that fear changed to OMG what if I can't get the car out? The weather started out nice, but Gilbert was socked in and it snowed the whole way back to the car. There's no way I could have done this trip without the use of a GPS. Above treeline, sometimes the visibility was marginal, but sometimes it was so bad I couldn't tell which way the ground was sloping. The first 3/4 mile or so along Joulious Creek isn't too pleasant because it is steep and the trees are closely spaced, but after that it is a ski tourer's delight. Snow conditions were perfect and there was not a speck of wind. I was able to keep the skis on all of the way to the top. 7:50 up and 12:15 RT.

9/16/2000 Day trip from Henrys Fork TH with MM. Also did E Gilbert (12851).

Triple Crown!  Sucess!

We hit this peak up the western spur. It's actually not too bad of a hike, despite no trail. Once on the ridge you just have to deal with the wind and the numerous false summits. It's like they don't even care. We did this peak at sunset so we had probably the best golden hour ever.

The mountains were rainbows!  Sucess!

Started from Henry's Fork trailhead, dropped our stuff and set up camp around Dollar Lake, and then headed up to Gilbert. On our way down, there was the most gorgeous sun shower turned hail storm during the golden hour. So swoony. Grabbed Kings and South Kings the next day!

CoHP 14  Sucess!

Left Henry's Fork Trailhead at 8:30pm on Tuesday night. Camped somewhere between Alligator turn-off and Elkhorn. Hiked to Dollar Lake in the morning and set up new campsite. Left for Gilbert Peak up the steep hill heading up the southwestern most corner of the "bowl" above Dollar Lake. Very nice walk across the plateau over to the summit. Only a small portion of very minor boulder hopping required. You could probably find a way up the final push that was even easier. We hiked down and across the plateau over to Gunsight Peak afterwards and then bailed down the only possible non-cliffed-out gully down to the tail that leads to gunsight pass and then back to camp. Made our way back to car the next morning on the "Henry Fork Highway" as we passed at least 30 groups coming up that morning. Wow! I'm glad we chose the days we did. Beautiful skies - and only a few groups up at dollar lake. Good luck to all those people up there this weekend. Some rangers we passed said there will probably close to 400 people in the upper Henry's fork basin this weekend with the full moon and all...yikes!

West Beaver rocks!  Sucess!

We started pretty late ~9 after sleeping in and so didnt see the below Darren or anyone else for the whole 3 days. West Beaver is a fabulous secret, the views from Gilbert and the table land below the summit of the upper terracing of many lakes rival all other drainages I have been to in the Uinta's and the solitude is only matched by the wildlife. 4 huge moose, several large elk, including babies, many of the namesake beaver and most curiously a weasel that had killed a pika on the table lands, we chased him down and he dropped his prize only to frantically circle us trying to get ever closer to us and his dinner. We finally gave it back as he was a skinny guy. I dont like seeing dead pika, but this weasel was pretty hilarious, we got alot of video and pics of him.

Solitude!  Sucess!

Great hike up Gilbert and across the saddle to Gunsight Peak from Dollar Lake with RB. Camped at Dollar Lake which was a mistake as the large groups of boy scouts there do not observe the most basic tenets of low-impact camping and behavior. Complete solitude hiking the peaks though!

Relentless Head Winds  Sucess!

Did this one from Henry's Fork TH in a day. At Elkhorn crossing we crossed the river and followed the W. Beaver Creek trail for a little over a mile then headed south on the broad ridge. After the battle with relentless winds we achieved the summit. We came down the Dollar Lake route and back to the trailhead.

Gilbert  Sucess!

8/16/2013 We left the Henry's Fork trailhead at 7:45am, dropped our packs at Dollar Lake, grabbed our day packs, and reached the summit of Gilbert a little before 12:30 pm. From Gilbert we traversed over to Gunsight Peak and then onto East Gunsight. Descended back down to the saddle between Gunsight and Gilbert and back down to our camp at 5 pm. Long fun day.

Fun Hike  Sucess!

Started from Dollar lake after doing King's the day before. We missed South King'd due to a storm that rolled in. After bagging Gilbert another storm was on the horizon and dashed our plans for bagging Gunsight as well. Made it down just before the Snow/Rain/Lightning hit hard.
