"Give me the good earth,
To lay my head on ..
Give me the mountains,
The cool summer breeze.
Give me the forests, the deep river valleys ..
Give me the oceans ... the fish AND THE SEAS ..."
Scantily-clad alpine peaks occupy a section of the south wall of the
Seward Peninsula's Grand Central Valley, seen from the western end
of Salmon Lake and a 9-acre campground administered by the BLM.
The Grand Central Valley, most frequently tread upon by Grizzly bears, is the gateway to climbs on nearby Tigaraha (pointed) Mountain, Crater Lake Peak and the undisputed king of the Kigluaiks, Mount Osborn.
The bizarre brown color by which the outcrops may be distinguished (at considerable distances) is due to a small amount of iron oxide in the schist.
The Kigluaik (Sawtooth) range lies approximately 50 miles south of the Arctic Circle. No developed trails exist here.
