Two weeks of power hiking (solo) as many trail miles as possible on the eastern side of the park. Stunning scenery and abundant wildlife.

First visit

Pretty much did the whole tourist deal back then. Incredible views all around, though now I understand there are few actual glaciers left. Meaning to return one day as a climber, if nothing else I need to do the Ptarmigan-Goat Trail; just awesome looking.

My favorite place in the US!  Sucess!

Our first trip to Glacier we explored around the Waterton, Many Glacier, and Logan Pass areas (with a quick summit of Reynolds Mountain), and I was blown away by the scenery and rugged feel of the mountains. It's the first place I've ever been where I felt a bit sad and unsatisfied to leave even after doing the hikes I wanted (mostly because of the longing I had to stay), and definitely need to get back up there sometime to do some more!

CanadianteachersinGNP  Sucess!

My husband and I have been hiking and backpacking since 2008, and we started climbing in 2010. We spend about 7-8 weeks on the trails and on the peaks. Last summer we climbed 15ish peaks in the park in July and August. Can't wait to be back there!

Glacier NP  Sucess!

I lived in Whitefish during my pre-school years and my mom used to bring all of us kids to the park to feed the bears (Ritz crackers, no less). I have been back to Glacier and Waterton many times since and will always love the place.

One of my favorite spots  Sucess!

Took me 5 years to get there, and I went as a mountaineer after originally wanting to go as a tourist, but it was very well worth the wait. The views are tough to beat. I plan on returning, at least until the Glaciers are all gone. Just wish the park could find a better balance between caring about tourists with their money to spend and climbers/hikers just there to enjoy the world. I felt the rangers viewed me as an annoyance.

Re: One of my favorite spots

Second trip, also as a climber went much better. Great rangers to work with on permits. I have to say though, the country is hard, and I am thinking more and more the "tourists" have the idea right. Helicopter rides, bus tours, gentle, easy hikes, rafting, llama and horse rides- plenty to do for anyone.

Home  Sucess!

Has been home ever since 2009. Not introduced to climbing here, but this is where I fell in love with the sport. Too many summits to list. Love GNP!
