Glacier Peak

Glacier Peak

White Chuck Glacier is almost gone. The line route is where the Glacier once was and the route we took a year ago to climb Glacier from the south. From the top of my line, you go over Glacier Gap, follow the east side of the ridge. You can go over Disappointment Peak, or take the Gerdine and Cool Glaciers to the pumice ridge to the top.

White Chuck Glacier

The picture in Beckey Book, page 94,95 shows arial views of White Chuck Glacier as a very large area. It is almost non-existent now. Also, the map I carried I bought from REI shows a large glacier there too, incorrectly. It was a little disorienting for us to get there and wonder where the glacier was. My Uncle flew planes during WWII and climbed before the war. He has several B&Whits prints of mountains up here, including Glacier Peak with notes saying he walked on White Chuck Glacier. His arial shows part of the Glacier, really cool, but sad it's almost gone now. Thanks for your interest.
