Brutal day from Denny Creek
Before going I checked out slope angles and forest cover on caltopo, and avy conditions were green at all elevations and aspects. I thought this would be a pretty easy 6-ish miler from Denny Creek even as a solo trail-breaker. Man, was I wrong! Even with good avy conditions, I wanted to be on the north ridge instead of the gully, but getting there was like committing seppuku -- given the steep, shin- to knee-deep, slippery, sugar snow. On top of that, I had to navigate a lot of deadfall and thick forest with snowshoes on. Once I got above treeline, things were fine, though. Beautiful day.

Just shoot me
Epic winter ascent of SE ridge from Cottonwood Lake (winter closure). The snow on the ridge was very deep and unconsolidated. At one point we resorted to breaking out shovels to remove snow for upward progress! One team member proclaimed: "Just shoot me!".

8 Peaks
With Emma Burr, Jones, Jones North, Kreutzer, Chalk Rock, 12900 & 12730.
Climbed Gladstone Ridge with both of Jones' summits from Ptarmigan Lake, nice quick hike on a day when the weather was iffy but it held through the morning nicely!

Gladstone Ridge
Very beautiful area. I had climbed the nearby Jones Mountain via Ptarmigan Lake Trail in autumn of 2009. Nice to see the area again, this time with the green colors of summer.
