W Slope  Sucess!

Fun summit block. Class 3, but easy. Great views. Part of a dayhike of Striped Mountain and Goodale Mountain from Taboose Pass trailhead. Trip report.

From Taboose Pass  Sucess!

Started from Taboose Pass TH and walked endlessly uphill before hanging a left at the pass towards this peak. I fumbling around on 3rd and 4th class terrain north the true summit for a while before cruising around to the south side of summit and making the top easily. Sweet views and a super cool looking summit :)

South West Ridge  Sucess!

Traverse from Striped Mountain. Summit pinnacle was more difficult than the advertised class 3. Maybe I should've looked around for the class 3 route.

Satisfying Day  Sucess!

Solo dayhike on maiden voyage of Taboose Pass trail. Took the shortcut by Orange Ogre and began ascent from NW to gain the top part of the ridge. Circumnavigated to the north side of summit tower and found myself in exposed Class 4 terrain. The 12' off-width was definitely the crux of my day. Very interesting peak if you don't take the "dog route" up.

Also from Taboose...  Sucess!

So cool to see a herd of moutain ewes and kids on the way up. Great day with Sean and Tom! It will be a better ski this winter...

PS: Sean, how did that block get loose??? ;-)

Up Taboose with Sean and Laura. Loose but reasonably quick. Summit block is fun.

From Taboose  Sucess!

Not as hard or as loose as it looks. Fun summit blocks, but be careful -- one of the sub-blocks is loose! Trip report

Day 2  Sucess!

Climbed the morning of day 2 after Striped the day before, while on 5-day trip in the area with my bother. This was his first summit ever. We had perfect CA weather each day, bagging Striped, Goodale, Cardinal, Wynne, Pinchot, Arrow, and Pyramid during the trip.

Southern Side of the West Face  Sucess!

Great looking summit -- we referred to it as the Hall of the Mountain King. Came down and headed over to Striped.

West Face  Sucess!

After climbing Cardinal went up the west face with Bob. Lots of loose rubble and talus. Got into some spicy climbing toward the summit pinnacle. The easy way would have been approaching more from the south.

2007 Sierra Challenge  Sucess!

Somehow, Ryan and I managed to climb halfway up the wrong peak before realizing we weren't on Cardinal. Doh! Recovered from our errant ways, summiting Cardinal and then Goodale for good measure. Trip Report

Route Climbed: West Face Date Climbed: Oct 2, 2004  Sucess!

It wasn't easy to pick out the summit block when approaching from the west. My first guess involved some mildly spicy scrambling, followed by what appeared to be an unclimbable block--at least from my vantage point. I contoured around to the south to approach it from another direction, found an intervening block that was even higher, and was delighted to find that was the summit. If the summit block really is class 3, it has to be the easiest class 3 I've climbed in the Sierra.

Traversed over to Striped (tedious thanks to a few inches of fresh powder covering all the talus), and back down to the Taboose Pass TH. Not a dayhike I'm likely to repeat any time soon.

Route Climbed: West Face Date Climbed: 1978  Sucess!

Climbed this with Doug Mantle. After hiking up to Taboose Pass we left our packs and climbed this and Striped Mountain. On the way back to our packs we saw a large herd of Sierra Bighorn!
