Gospic town is largest in Lika region and is its administrative center. Most of Velebit is in its county. From Gospic many continental accesses to nearby Velebit lead. Gospic is placed on 4 rivers which are frozen in winter because of cold climate. Temps here drop to -30°C. Rivers in Lika belong to its closed karst hydrological system which means they surface and go under ground in this mountain closed region. Mostly they go through Velebit and end up as under sea water source in Velebit channel, which is the reason why sea is cold in Velebit channel even in summer when air temps can reach 35-40°C.
