Gothic, camped at Foggy Lake  Sucess!

Lake still frozen 7/29/22, trail conditions/snow not too bad at all. Summit block scramble fairly easy. 30 foot section of easy, low exposure, "class 3". Make SURE you stay left and find the correct spot to scramble though. Recommend backpacking Foggy Lake to nab it. Would be long day trek. Absolutely beautiful peak to chase after.

Gothic Peak from Foggy Lake  Sucess!

A group of us climbed Gothic Peak via Gothic Basin trail. It's fairly straightforward. We all made it. Not too difficult.

Del Campo/Gothic  Sucess!

Fun scramble. Did Del Campo first before coming around via the saddle and contouring under the upper slopes to the standard route up Gothic. The basin is absolutely gorgeous.

Gothic day hike  Sucess!

Went with 4 buddies to the summit of Gothic Peak via Barlow Pass. Very cool area - originally had a crappy forecast turned spitting a little rain, but clear enough skies. ***Of note: the large slabs of rock on the talus field below Gothic are unstable. My party wanted to look at the two spires next to Gothic and dropped below the peak to skirt around and asses. I had the biggest rock slide I've been a part of cut loose under my footing and injure one foot good enough to make the hike out a little perilous. I was doing everything right and still got caught in a bad situation - things change quickly in the mountains. P.s. - those spires will require rope and technical gear as our 5.10 guru could not manage his way up, FYI

Foggy Lake to SE Ridge  Sucess!

Hiked the trail from Barlow Pass in thick cloud cover until just below Gothic Basin, where the weather improved drastically. Blue bird day from thereon. Followed the very well-worn trail from Foggy Lake up to the SE ridge of Gothic. Following the ridge proper involves a little bit of route-finding, so some parties may simply want to hike up the scree to the east of the ridge. Class III route with no real exposure was very evident from the base of the summit block. A very short climb to the beautiful summit. Great views of Mount Baker and Glacier Peak! Ran into at least 50 people over the course of the day... Gothic Basin is a very beautiful, popular destination!

Gothic Peak and Del Campo  Sucess!

Did this one as part of a long day hike of both Gothic Peak and Del Campo.

Fun to get views of and from both peaks in the same hike.

Basin was choked with campers who said we were crazy to do both peaks in one day from Barlow Pass. Gave one tired looking couple who straggled in late in the day a tip-off to the best campsite (its up on the ridge, and comes with its own pond for water, and has views to the West).

Bonus - saw a mountain goat lounging in the snow to beat the heat.

Unique and beautiful area

Up I Go

02/28/15- Camped just below the summit with Natasha. Had a beautiful sunrise on a low snow year. Took 7 mins to summit from camp

Sunny Summit!  Sucess!

Great views! Rainier, Adams, Pilchuck, Three Fingers, Pugh, Adams, Del Campo, Glacier, Stuart, and Daniels were all visible! Make sure you aren't confused by the tarn before foggy lake. Alot of the campers in Gothic Basin told me the pond was Foggy Lake...I was disappointed until the following day on the way up to the summit block. What a surprise!

snow-free in September  Sucess!

I climbed Gothic Peak as an add-on to a Gothic Basin hike... my first time in the North Cascades. It was an easy scramble on (mostly) excellent rock. If I ever get up there again, I'm gonna go up Del Campo.

Deceiving  Sucess!

Spent a great night @ Foggy Lake then climbed Gothic the next morning. The scramble looked a lot longer and harder than it really was. Caught glimpses of Mt Baker, Glacier Peak, and Mt Rainier thru the clouds

7 Hours Round Trip  Sucess!

The late snow this year made the approach easier. I used to think that the summit block would be a tough scramble but its not hard if you go to the south side.

Beautiful Area

Weather was in the upper 80's. Gothic Basin can get pretty warm. Made it to Foggy Lake. Decided to climb Gothic Peak instead of Del Campo. We only had enough time to do one or the other. Got some bunk directions at the lake that really messed us up. Made it to about 100' from the summit and searched for any signs of trail for about an hour. We finally went all the way to the left where the cliff is at, then turned right and scrambled up some pretty exposed boulders but ran out of time. We didnt want to commit to far up with our time...we still weren't convinced then that this was the route. Later found out that the way we were scrambling was the correct route. Bummer, we were so close. We are going to do an overnighter in 2010 and summit both Del Campo and Gothic...

at least it wasn't as wet as earlier in the day when we were atop Del Campo, but I still have to come here for the views I missed ;-]
