Only 44 minutes from the top of Armstrong to the summit of Gothics. This was easily the best mountain of the day. The cables on the south side have seen better days but in good weather/conditions they are superfluous.

Gothics
Went up the Weld Trail and then over Armstrong and the Wolfjaws. Jaw-dropping views from Pyramid on the shoulder of Gothics.
The last mile took 1 hour 45 minutes, but the view was worth it

Gothics to Upper and down
St. Huberts parking area was a bit of a hike from the road that leads into these great range hikes. When I left the parking area I was intent on hiking Dial and Nippletop. As is my method I changed my mind three times finally settling on Gothics and Armstrong. Then I threw in Upper Wolf Jaw to make it three for the day. #'s 8,9,10! At the start of the hike, I was shocked as I crested the hill above the Ausable Club. Before me was a strange scene. People in white playing couples tennis while boys watched the schedule. I felt as if "Baby" from Dirty Dancing was sneaking around on daddy somewhere. This hike begins on a road that leads up the valley and is accessible only by foot. No dogs allowed. Private land. The hike up Gothics and in between the other two was the most technical I have seen yet. Loved it! The whole hike took ten hours and I am only slightly disappointed that I missed L. Wolf Jaw. It was 6 pm when I reached the Lower Wolf Jaw .5 mile --> sign and that equals 1 mile out and back. It was the longest hike out in history and I needed my map on the way out. As I made the final turn, to cross a footbridge back to the private road that I had last seen 7 hours earlier, I heard an unusually loud rustling to my right. My curiosity peaked immediately when I recognized the sound was too loud to be the usual chipmunk. I looked right, following the shuffling noise and boom! The most beautiful thing I have ever seen in the Adirondacks.....Ursus americanus.....the American black bear! He just looked at me as I retreated to the safety of the footbridge. It was exhilarating. He was only 20 yards away. Once I was sure he wasn't following, I walked swiftly to the gate at the Ausable club.

Third of almost four peaks on the day
Came up from Ausable on the long road to the lake. Hit up Sawteeth first, and then went up and over Pyramids to the summit of Gothics. Felt like I was getting a second wind on top, so I thought, why not hit up Saddleback and make it four peaks?
So I went down the very steep (and long) half-mile descent to the John's Brook Trail, and then made it about halfway up the remaining half-mile to Saddleback's summit when my left leg started cramping intensely. It was already almost 3pm, and knowing I still had a LOT of hiking ahead of me, I bailed, so close to the top.
Then I climbed back down to the col, back up the cables of Gothics, down toward Pyramid, back up Pyramid, back down to the intersection between Sawteeth/Gothics, down to the lake, and four miles on the road back to my car! Super long day, PERFECT weather, about 17 miles total over 9 1/2 hours. Will go back soon to finish off Saddleback...

Gothics Mtn.
Summited Gothics Mountain 4736' via Lake Road and the Beaver Meadow Falls trail. We followed this trail up to the col between Gothics & Armstrong. The trail involved some moderate scrambing but had some wooden ladders built on the trail on the steeper sections. When we got to the col we summited the first false summit and made our way along with ridge to the summit of Gothics. Great views from the top, but also a low wind chill with 30 mph gusts, so we did not spend much time up there. We descended and headed towards Armstrong.

Clloudy Day
Hiked from Ausable Club via Pyramid peak, then over Armstrong and Upper Wolf Jaw. Great hike/scramble that made for an interesting day. The summit was clouded in, so no views, but the clouds rolling over the mountains and through the cols was a really neat thing to see. Had some really good views from Armstrong And UWJ since they were just under cloud level. Can't wait to go back when the skies are clear. Great day, 10 hours round trip from parking area. Don't forget to check out Rainbow Falls, that's a really high waterfall, the highest single drop I've seen up here.
