Re: Highest Quality

Hi bagger,

I can tell what I do:

a) first scan my slide with a slide scanner, I use a Canon FS 2710, there are much better ones (Vid has a better one!)

b) I scan mostly with the resolution for the net, that is 640 pixel at the long side. Rescaling pictures means less of sharpness

c) Befores scanning I often change the amount of "Gamma" at the preview until the picture looks best.

d) with software (I use PhotoImpact) I do the automatical correction of colours. Often mountain pictures have a blue touch, esp. when taken around noon. I hope this is not considered as "cheating"

e) then I sharpen the picture a little. If the picture has been rescaled, then more sharpening is necessary. The german name for this tool is "Unscharf maskieren", I don't know the english expression

f) I convert the file from bmp to jpg, mostly with maximum 100 kb. That's enough, more bytes does not improve the picture.

Point e) is the morst important one. This would improve many pictures here on SP

HTH ! Mathias

I was trying to guess..

where you shot this photo from: Collacc? Col Bel( Val Giumela)? or rather the far Larsec (Catinaccio)?

I just appreciated the photo.

Cheers!

Re: I was trying to guess..

That day we climbed Collac on the route back from Rifugio Contrin to Val di San Nicolo. So the picture is taken either from Collac or from the ascent to it. Glad you like it!
