Route Climbed: Havasupai Date Climbed: July 3-5, 2001  Sucess!

It was well over 100F in the canyon, a fan was needed, but we just went in the water most of the time! The waterfalls are the most beautiful I've ever seen (better than Hawaii).

Route Climbed: Rim to Rim to Rim Date Climbed: May 23, 2003  Sucess!

Well, this double crossing (or R3 as some canyon aficionados call it) has been on my list for a long time. I finally got the chance to do it. Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of summer (for everywhere else except Arizona). I found it to be plenty hot already. I did this hike over 2 days (had to stay at the North Rim since that was my first visit), and both days it was well over 100 degrees. Ouch!

A friend was organizing a north rim to south rim hike on the 24th, so I told him that I would hike over to meet them on the north rim and hike back with them. The trip to the north rim was quite a bit harder than going up the south rim. The stretch between Cottonwood camp and the top was an unrelenting 7 miles of steep grades! I was glad that I enjoyed the scenery too much to worry about my aching calves. Made the crossing in about 10.5 hours, just in time to meet up with the gang that drove to the north rim.

I had gotten some nasty blisters on the way over to the north, so I had seriously considered bypassing the hike back. But by morning, I felt better so I decided to go for it. It was quite the experience to hike into the canyon when you are already sore and achy, especially knowing how long you have to go and seeing everyone around you all fresh and happy. But again, the sheer pleasure of being part of that incredible landscape seemed to cure my ills. We made excellent time down, and took some time to loiter around Ribbon Falls. Absolutely amazing! I love that you can get right behind it and look out through the waterfall. (see picture).

After much pain through The Box area and hobbling Bright Angel with blistered feet, I finally made it out (among the leaders of the pack no less) in about 12 hours (including time spent at Ribbon Falls). Awesome experience, and some time I hope to do the double crossing in one day.

Many routes and many canyons. All of my trips have been away from any trails since 1989. To experience "The real Grand Canyon" you must hike days away from any trails.

Route Climbed: down Kaibab/ up Bright Angel Date Climbed: July 81, 95, 99  Sucess!

I've done this route three times now. The Canyon is always beautiful. I've done the round trip in anywhere from 6 hours to two days, depending on my partner. If you hike or back pack, it's a must.

Route Climbed: North Rim to South Rim: North Kaibab start with Bright Angel Finish Date Climbed: August 2001  Sucess!

One of my favorite hikes of all time. The north rim is the best kept secret of the Grand Canyon. A lot cooler, not as many tourons, and.....just nice. See our trip report with photos here.

Route Climbed: South Rim to North Rim Date Climbed: 9/6/01  Sucess!

Nice day hike. I motored down the south side trail pretty quickly, stopped briefly at the bottom, then the North Rim trail up. I think it is about 21 miles total. My first trip to the Canyon. Would love to spend some time exploring down there. My time was just over 6.5 hours. Looks like some great whitewater down there.

Route Climbed: Bright Angel Trail to Phantom Ranch Date Climbed: April 27, 1999  Sucess!

My husband, J, and I have been down in the Grand Canyon on several occassions and via several different trails. The only date I'm sure of is this one, our last visit into the Grand Canyon. It's an enchanted and addicting place. I'm not done with it yet.

Route Climbed: Most recently a South-Rim-to-North-Rim-to-South-Rim hike/run Date Climbed: Many  Sucess!

Each time I visit the Grand Canyon, I swear I'll never go back. I've been down to the Colorado River on 6 or 7 different occasions. I've taken the trade routes as well as done some more remote, multi-day loops. My most recent jaunt was an impromptu 44 mile South-Rim-to-North-Rim-to-South-Rim day hike/run in November, 2002.

Route Climbed: South Kaibab, Double Miners and Bright Angel Date Climbed: October 2002  Sucess!

Nice loop, easy grade, lots o'traffic, lots o'donkey-dung, Great views. I prefered Hermit-Boucher Loop over the South Kaibab-Bright Angel Loop. The Cheops Pyramid and Oneil Butte are next.

Route Climbed: Down N. Rim, up S. Kaibab Date Climbed: June 2001  Sucess!

Yep, doing this trail in the summer is stupid. Yep, it was hot. The north rim trail had lots of surprises. More water and wildlife than I expected to see. Some parts almost felt like a jungle. We drank watered down gatorade, highly recommended to replace salts, fluids, and energy.

Lesson: Drinking lots of beer at Phantom Ranch and hiking 11 miles out the next day do not mix.

Route Climbed: Hermit Trail; Havasu Canyon Date Climbed: March 15, 1999; Oct 7-9, 1999  Sucess!

Hiked down to the Colorado River twice. Once via the Hermit trail with Josh (no mule dung!) - 18.6 mile dayhike. The second via Havasu Canyon - 42 miles over 3 days. The Havasu Canyon hike is my favorite hike of all time. It's just gorgeous. There is one small section of rope-assisted 3rd class (class 4 w/o the rope). Here are some photos: Hermit Trail, Havasu Canyon.
