My friend Kiley couldn't go until 10:30 in the morning. So we got a hot start, and we got a good sweat on during the hike. She recently moved here from Panama, so the altitude was just enough the get her lungs working. And both our dogs were excited to get back down to water. But great views of the SL valley and especially Mount Olympus from there. Was another great outing.

My highest solo summit to date
After a week without snow, the trail was nicely packed to the saddle and loosely packed to the summit. Having gotten the route down after failing to summit a few days ago, and with the trail conditions in my favor, I made it to the top -- my highest solo summit and highest winter summit.
The day was hazy and overcast, but visibility in the canyon and on the hike up was great. At the top, things opened up: The clouds still hung like a ceiling, very close (the top was in light clouds), but I could see across the valley to the Oquirrhs and a good distance north and south as well.
I had the trail to myself most of the way up, and bumped into a few friendly folks on the way down. Lots of dogs. I was probably overdressed in microspikes and gaiters, but I'd rather be slightly over-prepared than under-prepared.
All in all, a fantastic hike. I've got the bug for sure, now! I'd love to come back on a clear day, too.

A Cool Stroll
Started at 10 am. Real easy stroll with Maren to the summit. A bunch of kids were at the top making hilarious comments. The mud became a bit tricky on the way down but we managed. A little less than 4 hours round-trip.

First solo summit!
I went trail traipsing up West Ridge after work, ate some fruit snacks under the afternoon sun, and chit-chatted with some ultrarunners at the summit. Everyone and their dogs (literally) seemed to have come up Church Fork, so I had the trail alllllll to myself. Most excellent!

Fun hike in the afternoon. Only my second peak in this very slow year. Great view from the top though.
