Grapevine Talking  Sucess!

Most 4x4s should have no problem making it past the boulder and up to the saddle.

2nd Time Around  Sucess!

Going around the DPS list a second time. A cold front made Grapevine, Palmer, and Pahrump Point possible for late April.

27 Peaks in 21 Days  Sucess!

Grapevine was not overly impressive but it was nice to see geodes near the initial saddle. I went solo up Wahguye in the afternoon and we did Palmer the next day. It was damn cold the entire time with temperatures at camp in the teens. This was part of a 21 day hiking road-trip I did with Heather. Other peaks we did on this trip include:

Pinos, Sawmill, Aliso, Signal, Castle Dome, Ajo, Miller, Superstition BM, Turtle HP, Old Woman, Granite, Cinder Cone 3894', Avawatz, Pahrump, Pinto, Nelson HP, Panamint Butte, Canyon Point, Shadow, Wahguye, Palmer, Stirling, Northshore, Black Mesa, Hamblin, and Little Virgin.

We also visited Heiroglyphic Canyon, Marble Canyon, Cottonwood Canyon, Sheep Spring Canyon, Cadiz Dunes, Mojave Lava Tube, Parowan Gap Dinosaur tracks and numerous pertroglyph sites.

See the trip report with photos for more information.

Standard route  Sucess!

Impressive view of Ubehebe Crater and Death Valley from the summit, but kind of a "blah" peak with a very long dirt-road approach from the east. Continued to Wahguyhe, and really should have done Palmer as well. Trip report.

Moby Grape  Sucess!

An easy peak. Pleasant day. Back to the car in a little over four and a half hours (from 6680'). A good way to end the weekend after Palmer the day before.

Grapevine Peak  Sucess!

Hiked with David S. and Abby (cocker spaniel). Nice and interesting hike with some mineralized outcrops, but pretty remote. Mountain lions are known out here, as evidenced by a tracking collar study and the deer kill we saw, so use caution.

From the east  Sucess!

After Palmer  Sucess!

Went up after climbing Palmer in the morning. Confusing terrain.

The original register books on both the Palmer and Grapevine were missing; the ammo boxes were still there. Someone had donated a small book to the Grapevine register. I'm curious if the DPS took the books down to photograph, then return?

Remote area  Sucess!

I enjoyed the remoteness of this wilderness, although the climb was pretty trivial.

Nice desert peak  Sucess!

Summmited Grapevine late morning after an early morning ascent of Wahguyhe. Partly cloudy, windy, cold, intermittent snow flurries.
