3rd of three 6000 footers
Last peak of the day before heading back down to Carver's Gap. I left the car at 3 PM to head this way and with a five minute stop on this summit I still got back to the car at 512 PM. Windy but clear.

Outstanding southern peak
We had a long 16+ mile day ahead of us but we weren't about to skip this amazing peak out of Carvers Gap. Incredible views, the Roan highlands are some of the finest scenery we've enjoyed yet on our northbound AT odyssey.

End of a beautiful tour
Hiked up here from Carver's Gap after tagging Roan High Bluff and Roan High Knob earlier in the morning. Despite some clouds on the western half of the hike, the sky was blue and beautiful my whole time on the balds... which left me rather fried by the end of it. Bring sunscreen for this one, kids!
Great spot for lunch with a great view of Grandfather Mountain to the East

Made it over to this beautiful summit from Carvers Gap after visiting Roan High Knob & Roan High Bluff earlier in the day. Made for a long day, but a nice one; weather was beautiful.

Beautiful but chilly!
Wonderful hike with a great view!!! We started predawn and had a gorgeous sunrise to greet us as we reached the summit from Carvers Gap. There was plenty of snow on the ground, but it was quite hard and most of it could easily be walked on without sinking down too much.

Awesome area!
After doing both Roan peaks backpacked in to this peak. It is one of my favorite places to camp. Spectacular views, craggy rocks to play on, Rododendrons all around, high elevation, it's a blast! Roan highlands are awesome.

Perfect Day- Happy Birthday America!
At the cost of rolled ankle, summited on the way from Carver's Gap to Big Yellow Mountain. Returned from Big Yellow the same day to enjoy a spectacular 360 degree fireworks display from Round Bald Summit.
Nice easy hike, there was a huge crowd at the trailhead but I had the summit to myself.

Windy and Foggy
Hiked this from Carver's gap. Conditions that morning were around 60'F or so, but with low clouds giving my hike foggy conditions and winds of around 40MPH or so. But still a great experience to see a 360' view when a break in the clouds happened.
It was very cold and windy, like I like it. Well worth the "side" trail. Why can't all sixers be this good looking?

Winter fog
Missed this one while on the AT in '98, so came back to climb in 2000 with my wife. Not quite enough snow for skis or snowshoes, but plenty for the rednecks sledding at Carvers Gap. Extensive views of fog from the ridge and summit.
Completed as part of a 12-mile "loop" including Roan High Knob and Roan High Bluff. The scenery was incredible. When I arrived I was one of 3 cars in the lot, by the time I got back around 2pm the lot was full with vehicles parked all the way out onto the road!

The fog
I hiked this with my mom, bless her... It was a foggy and rainy day in the highlands just after the rhododendron bloom.
