Part of 46 finishMy 45th peak, finished on Skylight. Long approach and couldnt believe how little relief there is between Gray and Marcy.

1st of threeTook about four hours to get here from the Loj via Lake Arnold. The summit has trees but there were good views of both Marcy and Skylight. The herd path was slightly steep in spots.

Gray, Skylight, MarcyHiked up from the Loj, took the Lake Arnold trail up and across to the other side. Then up to Gray Peak, then Mt Skylight and finished with Mt Marcy. Gray Peak herd path was easy to find and follow with a couple short scrambles. Very small summit area and it seemed a lot of people were doing these 3 peaks today. It got crowded very quick, but nice, friendly people to chat with. Headed back to the Loj via the Vanhovenburg trail. 11 hrs, 19 miles loop...I slept very well this night when I got home!

This is happinessStarted from the lean to at the base of Mt.Marshall. A long beautiful gradual incline practically to the base of Mt.Marcy. When you get to the lake, take a left into the woods. The trail is a little hard to find. Windswept drifts from there so we broke trail. Gorgeous summit views. A perfect day!!!!! We went off to bag Skylight then hiked out in the dark to the parking lot (15.5 mile hike!) Long day but spectacular. enjoy!!

Nice lil' climbSummited Gray Peak during a Saturday through Monday backpacking trip. We backpacked in the rain Saturday night to one of the Avalanche Lean-Tos from the ADK Loj, spent the night, woke up late on Sunday morning and hit the trail to Feldspar via Lake Arnold. There is one section on the way to Feldspar that is currently flooded and requires balancing on the many floating logs on the trail. We then took the trail to Lake Tear of the Clouds and followed the herd path up to the summit of Gray Peak. Wasn't a particularly difficult hike up, but was steep in certain sections. Good view of Marcy on the summit! We then continued onto Mount Skylight, our last 46er!

Gray, Redfield and Cliff from Lake ColdenCanadian thanksgiving weekend. Summer weather throughout. We left Montreal at 3 pm and started hiking at 7 pm in the dark from South Meadows. We camped at avalanche lake tent site. Next morning we dropped our stuff at Lake Colden and hiked Gray from Lake Tear. First unmaintained trail to summit. The day after, we hiked Redfield from Uphill lean-to and met a lady 46er and her son. Desccended to the fork with the trail to Cliff Mt. An a propos name for that mountain. On the 10th we hiked back to the car and stopped at the Mountaineers in Keene.

GrayNot too impressed with this peak this day(overcast and drizzle).. only recommend it if you're going for the 46. It's hard to justify choosing this peak over Haystack, Skylight or Marcy.. Probably would be a nice winter climb when the snow is over the trees.. #21

First Winter TripViews were good because the snow was at least 6 feet deep. Had to dig down to the summit sign.

Winter AscentThis was beautiful on this day.All in part of a 6 summit 2 day adventure. With over 4ft of packed snow upon the summit raising us above the trees opened up some hidden secrets only visible in the heart of winter from this mountain.I raise my personal rankings 7 points for this baby...JW

Gray on a Sunny DayThis was part of a 4 mountain day.The ascent was easy, but the bushwhack back to marcy was the hardest mile I've ever done.Hidden drop offs, impenetrable cripplebrush and swarming blackflies add to the fun.The NYS DEC is stopping people from hiking across this direction now due to people getting hurt and damage to the alpine vegetation on the slopes of Marcy.I've done it and wouldn't try again anyhow...Jim w

Gray PeakClimbed with Skylight via the Uphill Brook Trail from Tahawus. The path to the top was pretty easy going and the summit provided excellent views of Marcy, Skylight, Redfield and the other peaks in the surrounding area. Lake of the Clouds was a nice treat as well.
