Our 1st 14er.
first 14'er! Hiked all day in a snow storm - no views to be had from the summit. Great day though!
1st 14er, done with Torrey. Been up there 4 times since. Next time will be from Montezuma.
My first 14er summit! It was a cloudy day and windy at the top, but awesome!
There was a bit of snow but passable without gear. There was a dump the next day. 2:45 up. 1:00 to cross the saddle to Torreys, 2:00 down from there.
Went solo, amazing day.
Things get more interesting here when the route is snow-covered. Good winter ascent!
climbed kelso ridge up torreys, then traversed to grays.
pre-dawn start pays-- the summit was mine alone
After climbing Torrey's Peak, we cruised on over to Gray's. Not the most impressive peak I've seen, but my third fourteener nonetheless. It seemed more like an anthill, even though we summited at 9:30 after Torrey's. We passed boatloads of people on the way down. Oh well.
See my summit log post for Kelso Ridge on Torrey's. Awesome views of Summit County and beyond from the top!
Straightforward hike on well-maintained trail. Traversed over to Torreys Peak following the climb of Grays. As a visitor from California, I was surprised by the number of people on the trail for a September Monday.
Beautiful climb in conjunction with Torreys. We climbed Torreys first. As we began descending Grays, the crowds were arriving in mass. Beautiful day, and wonderful climb!
Great day for hiking, this is an easy 14er compared to Long's peak, but it's still no piece of cake, had a good day and hiked over to Torrey's the same day.
OK, this is a 14er, and its a pretty cool trudge. The Dannon guide is kinda outdated on road conditions up to the Mitchell Creek Trailhead. This road currently is too rough for most passenger cars if you want to keep your oil pan intact. I bottomed out near the beginning and barely managed to escape back to the small parking area near the Interstate. We caught a ride up in a 4x4 SUV. The road had several spots further up where it was even rougher. This is a very centrally located 14er and you can see many, many prominent mountains from this summit. To me, identifying these was the most fun. And we saw several friendly mountain goats close up!
Hiked with Torreys
What a perfect day for a view from the summit. My sister (Amy Klassen) and I (Dave Lambertz) hit the trail at 0700 and made it to the peak by 9:30. Snowed a little on the way up but by the time we made it the view was absolutely perfect 360 degrees. On the summit we met two guys who had been there for a little while; one had summited Everest three times and will be making an I MAX movie about the Eiger in september, and the other had just summited his first Fourteener even though he is on the waiting list for a heart transplant! What a day, my first fourteener as well, and i loved every grueling second of it... Thanks for coming out with me sis
Climbed, Signed, and reclined! (but not for to long as we had to get on ever to Torreys!)
Summitted Gray's around 9:30 in the AM in a cloud. Not much view, but a good sense of accomplishment. A few other hikers were there and it was very friendly.
