My first CO 14er. Got altitude sickness as I came from sea level. Amazingly, my brother who also came from sea level didn't feel the effects of altitude. Great hike to acclimatize to.
Climbed after ascending Torreys.
Nice day for a summit with a few new Colorado residents. We took the standard Steven's Gulch approach. The three, having been living here for only 2 weeks were surprisingly relentless in their determination.
Did a snow climb up Lost Rat couloir...my first! It was awesome! Conditions were great, weather was beautiful, and my 2 guides were amazing at helping me feel confident.
Base camped the night before on a ridge around 12,000 ft...had to be the windiest spot on the mountain because it was even less windy on the summit! Live and learn...traversed over and got Torrey's as well!
Tim P, Mike B and I climbed the Dead Dog on Torreys and traversed over to Grays.
After climbing Torreys via Dead Dog Couloir, I continued on to Grays. Grays was...well, kind of boring...it does have a good view, however. Grays also turned out to be a new elevation record for me.
Good times after doing Dead Dog up Torreys with Eric H and Mike B. Had a fun and fast glissade down... 1000ft in 15 minutes maybe?
Good climb up the standard route. A long time ago!
I forget the exact date. From the summit I nervously watched a mountain goat inspecting my pack, which I had left far below at the saddle.
summited with jamie, matt and prakash on a bluebird day. good to knock this one off the winter list after turning at 13,200' with kiefer a month earlier.
Hiked up Grays and Torreys on four hours' sleep after an eight-hour drive from Salt Lake. J and I met up with a couple friends and we were up and down in a hurry. Beautiful day, easy grades to the summit, great views.
Unfortunately, my brother and I were plagued with poor weather during the entire week. It seemed as though every time the skis or shoes hit the snow, the wind would come up and it would start snowing. Oh well, the mountain will always be there, and I will return!
Marni and I summited Grays at sunrise and ate breakfast up there alone in our sleeping bags. Then we summited Torreys shortly after and headed down before the crowds got heavy. These were our first 14er summits together.
Circled over from Torreys after doing Kelso ridge
Camped overnight & hit this up the next day-had a rare break in the weather but it was still windy as all hell and cold at the top. But at least I got to see the sun! Some recent slide activity on Kelso and Torreys.
Hiked the North Slopes to Grays and the South Slopes to Torreys from Stevens Gulch Trailhead. The road to the trailhead was washed out from a recent storm and I barely made it through in my Honda Pilot. This was my first 14er combo.
Enjoyed a sunny, if crowded, day with good friends.
This was my first sucessful completed 14er...nice clear day. Yeah it was a little crowded being that it was a Sunday, but this experience started my new found love for hiking and mountaineering.
