Been want to do this for a long time
Views on this peak are STUNNING!! Well paced moderate trail with nice lake on the way up. Reminds of an even prettier version of Bare Mountain. Don't hike up this mountain unless the weather is decent because the views make the summit.

A campsite with a view
This was quite possibly the most spectacular backpacking trip I've ever been there. The plan was to camp directly on the summit, so we were on the trail by around 7:30AM. Reached the top just after noon; snow covers the last half of the trail, so be prepared (ice axes or poles would definitely be helpful). Cleared a flatish spot for our tents about 50' east of the lookout; easily the most spectacular/precarious place I've ever camped. Spent the day milling around/setting up hammocks/enjoying the views/building a snowcave/getting sunburned. The views were amazing (Glacier, Dome, Bonanza, Baker, Chaval, White Chuck, Pugh, Sloan, Shuksan, even the Olympics, to name a few). Did some astrophotography after dark. Woke up at 5AM to watch the sunrise (it was COLD), then went back to bed for a few more hours. Started hiking down at 12:30 (we were at the lookout a total of 24 hours!); the first 1500' make for an excellent glissade. Back down the to the car around 3:00. 10/10, would hike again. I highly recommend camping on the summit in early season; it's absolutely spectacular. Bring a camera!

Stellar Day
With Ron and Luna. I thought we were doing a different Green Mountain but this one was better. Snow from about 5300 on up. Crisp blue sky day with amazing views. Luna had a blast chasing everyone glissading down.

Worth The Extra Effort
Due to the partial closure of the Suiattle River Road, not due to open further until late October, this trip to Green Mountain became a 35-mile roundtrip jaunt. At least I was able to use my bike for 2/3 of the total route.
Once out of the thick forest, the trail switchbacked up through steep meadows. This section of the trail was very overgrown, with plants growing above my head in places. This is due to limited maintenance and little usage the trail has received during the past 11 years of the Suiattle River Road closure. Once over the ridge, I hit consistent snow. The snow continued into the lake basin, the lake of which was frozen-over. The standard trail up to the ridge leading from south of the summit was snowbound and relatively unsafe, so I opted to take the mostly-snow route up open slopes southwest of the summit. I saw a few marmots along the route but no other wildlife. The approach was straightforward, and I found a well-defined trail atop the west ridge (possibly an escape route in case of fire?). The final walk and short Class 2 scramble got me to the summit and the lookout. Fantastic views in every direction.

Successful outing after the previous year, when I somehow developed a fever on the climb and couldn't understand why everyone was passing me on the trail, including an old lady and a little kid. I had to lie down for about 1/2 hour to gather enough strength to get down the trail.

Fun and fast hike. Up and down in 3 hours with trail running. Pretty meadows, flowers and great view of main cascade crest. Glacier Peak stands close, by so obviously awesome view of it.
Great hike. This is perhaps one of the easiest and most accessible hikes that will give you views into some of the prime Glacier Peak Wilderness area. I visited the same week that the lookout in 2002 that the lookout was taken down for a scheduled three year offsite refurbishing.

This truly is a Cascade Classic! 2:15 to the TH from north Seattle in the sedan. Start high and get higher. A quick walk through mature forest brings you to the meadows Green Mt. is famous for. Lupine, Paintbrush, Tiger Lily, and Columbine are rioting. Time passes quickly on the well graded, no obstacle path. Plenty of fresh water filling the creeks in the basin where people camp. Watch for marmots! The switchbacks definitely steepen for the last long mile to the top. No lookout in site, but the views, oh, the eye-candy! Perhaps 100 named peaks are visible from here, with Dakobed (Glacier Peak) stealing the show. During lunch we were treated to an immature eagle hunting nearby. Wings back, he made a wooshing sound as he dove towards his prey. In a similar situation, we heard, then watched as a local fighter jet buzzed his way down the Suiattle, about 4000' below us.
