Just an afternoon of trail running & hiking.
Went up the short West Ridge but came back down the EM Greenman for a big loop. Fun hike with great views.
My wife is applying to grad school at CU-Boulder so we came out to check it out. Boulder was great and the mountains around the town are fantastic. Chose to hike Green because it seems like a local staple. The west ridge trail was easy and the views from the top are great. I loved gazing at the Continental Divide. Longs Peak looms large even from Green Mountain.
Started at Gregory Canyon Trailhead. Some ice, up to 6 inches snow, well-packed. Traction was useful in a few places but not necessary.
3rd of our traverse with SBP and Bear Mt..
Straightforward hike to the summit. No views due to clouds.
Green Mountain wasn't MY introduction to hiking in Boulder (that was Bear Peak), but it definitely would be. It isn't as difficult of a climb as neighboring Bear or South Boulder Peaks, but still has fairly decent views, including the plaque displaying the names and locations of most Front Range alpine summits.
With all it's merits, the trail to Green Mountain isn't nearly as pretty as the Shadow Canyon or Bear Canyon trails, and the views from the top aren't nearly as panoramic due to the tree cover. But it's still an enjoyable outing nonetheless.
Nice quick hike and introduction to Boulder. Great views of the snow capped Front Range, including my first Colorado peak, Longs Peak.
Quick day in Boulder.
Great day out of Boulder
The west ridge made for a quick final summit of the day. Chilled out on the summit for a while watching winter clouds swirl.
Continued over to the Sacred Cliffs.
When I was growing up in Boulder we used to climb this peak every summer along with Bear peak. I loved it and it was my first intro to mountain climbing.
One of my first Colorado hikes. Have enjoyed this hike a couple of times.
Climbed on a hot day starting from Chautauqua. Walked to the Gregory Canyon trail, then to the Ranger Trail, and then to the EM Greenman trail and summited. I was planning to go down the Saddle Rock Trail, but dogs were not allowed on this trail. I had my GSP with me, so I went back the way I came. Nice views, even on a hazy day.
Summited with wife and two boys on Memorial Day. Very nice area.
From Baseline Rd... gorgeous...
A nice solo 10.5 mile loop that got me both Green Mountain and Bear Peak. Super windy on the summit of Bear.
