via Bartlett Trail  Sucess!

A great trail to run, which goes nearly to the summit. Gorgeous weather, and a nice finisher to Pueblo County. With Cimarron.

From the north ridge  Sucess!

This was a camping trip with my son. He decided not to climb this peak with me and waited in the truck. We then drove over to St Charles Peak area to climb it.

West face route  Sucess!

Climbed the West face and hiked over several false summit's. Went ahead and summitted the North Peak on the way back down. Really windy! What a great area for terrific views and solitude. I'd like to try the Bartlett trail from Rye next time!

West Face - Again  Sucess!

No one had signed the register from 11/23/07 to 5/19/08. Climbed the West Face which is a Class 2+ scramble. Lots of fun, too bad it was cloudy and windy again would have loved to get the clear view.

West Face  Sucess!

Turned up the west face in a snow shower. Really windy and snowing heavily on the summit. Stayed long enough to sign the register.

Greenhorn Via Bartlett  Sucess!

A friend and I climbed Greenhorn via the Bartlett trail out of Rye. Enjoyable day. Makes for long miles and no crowds. Kind of funny. We spotted a guy on top as we were climbing the final section. When we got to the summit, the guy said he had waited for us to get there. Figured we were thirsty and passed us both a bottle of apple juice. Never tasted better.

There are 360 degree views of the plains, including Kansas. Spanish Peaks, Pikes and most of the Sangre range. Beautiful day.

Texas Trio bags Greenhorn  Sucess!

After a successful climb of Handies Peak in the San Juans we wanted something less strenuous on the way home to Texas. Greenhorn was the just the ticket. Joyce(wife), Honey(dog), and Chas.(slowbutsteady) arrived at the summit at 11am on a beautiful day. We descended south and circled around in a clockwise direction to pick up road back to vehicle.

Second peak today  Sucess!

Early this morning I hiked up West Spanish Peak, then drove up and had a fun hike from the end of the road up and over the grassy humps to the summit. Lovely area.

Route Climbed: Bartlett Trail Date Climbed: October 3, 2004  Sucess!

I liked taking the path less traveled up Greenhorn. It provided an intimate encounter with the wilderness. A trip report is available here.

Route Climbed: Greenhorn trail - from the upper parking lot Date Climbed: 9/16/2001  Sucess!

The Wet Mtn's are one of my favorite areas in the state. Growing up in Pueblo I spent a lot of time in this area. This was my fourth time on top of Greenhorn Mtn. Always great views and not a very difficult hike plus I didn't see a single person all day. What an awsome area.

Here are my log notes:

This was the fourth time I’ve hike up Greenhorn. I wanted to go another way this time so I hiked up the Greenhorn Trail to the saddle between the North peak (12,200) and another unnamed peak. From there I walked south up and over two other unnamed peaks and then up to Greenhorn. There was actually a register on the summit and I was the sixth person to register so far this month. There are six peaks that make up Greenhorn Mountain. All of them are relatively close in elevation with the southern summit the tallest (12,347). The next time I will do the rest and skip the highest summit summit.
