Clockwise Garfield, Grizzly, and Ouray. The stretch from Grizz to Ouray is pretty good, interesting class 3, particularly the chossy lumpy formations that stretch to the saddle on both sides. Go as far as you can, then exit stage north into a little chute, stay right and it goes. With Matt.

Standard route
Quick PM hike breaking up a long drive south. The page complains about a loose chute, but I found pleasant travel on a right-to-left ascending grassy ledge. Trip report.
Fun Tour De Grizzly: loop from Grizzly Couloir, then down the West Face.

3x
6/24/06 - Standard route with Garfield.
6/21/08 - Climbed from east side of Indy Pass winter closure, traversed to "Mountain Boy Peak" afterwards.
3/13/16 - Winter ascent of the standard route via McNasser Gulch in late May-like conditions. Started at the La Plata TH. The south facing slopes leading to the east ridge were holding more snow than expected. This is certainly not a good route choice during "normal" winter conditions.

Grizzly Couloir
Lovely day, up via Grizzly Couloir and down via West Slopes. Couloir had lots of deep snow, we did not need crampons or axes, only booted up with trekking poles.

Tried the Grizzly couloir. Got weathered off the mountain near the top of the couloir and had to retreat.

Great summit
I enjoyed spending some time on the summit alone, except for a visit from a mountain goat. I ascended from the northeast ridge (from Independence Pass) and then descended the north ridge to Grizzly reservoir. It was a long & fun day.

From McNasser Gulch
With Megan, 13. What a difference a few feet make... If this were a 14-er, it would be overrun. Because it isn't (quite), it's gloriously unfrequented. Up directly above the mine to maximize our time spent on the ridge... Toured round to Garfield and then back down in to McNasser Gulch (a particularly lovely basin, imo).
June 26 2016 with Ryan Draft. The reason for a second entry is to advertise a SUPERB ROUTE, inspired by BLong's entry on this page: parked at Indie Pass, and simply headed over the ridges. One slightly tricky segment coming off Igloo Pk (Pt 13,060) en route to Mountain Boy Pk (Pt 13,198) can be avoided by dropping off to the S. Went on to Garfield and walked out to the La Plata trailhead on the McNassar Gulch road. Not easy getting a lift up to Indie Pass. https://goo.gl/photos/AJZotWyJQ8WteXcq5

East ridge + Garfield
From the 2wd, ascended the East Ridge (long before the route on Matt's photo. It sounds like he had a horrible experience. It wasn't so bad for us - just steep.) Stayed on the ridge more, which gave us a bit of nice scrambling (above 2+). Traversed to Garfield and back down to the NE. Nicer weather than expected. Solid group of climbers (Nancy, Taylor, Jason, and me).
