Goodwin Lakes  Sucess!

Dayhike with a short side trip up Jackson on the way out. The trail beyond Jackson is brushy, but still easy to follow, and I had it to myself. Plenty of company on the way back down past Goodwin Lake. Trip report.

From Turquoise Lake  Sucess!

Great easy scramble (2+?) from Turquoise Lake. I was the only camped at Turquoise, and saw very few people during the two day trip. Fantastic views.

From the Highline Trail  Sucess!

Done in one super long day from Jackson, about 26 miles round trip. I literally staggered back into town after over 15 hours on the trail. Was one of my first peaks in the Yellowstone area, and is still some of my fondest memories of my climbing life. Also have approaced it from Bunker Creek once and from Turquoise Lake too.

wyopeakMike  Sucess!

Two times I have been to this great summit. The first time was on a solo backpack in 1994, one of my first summits in Wyoming. It was still snowcovered and I did not see any other people. The creek crossings were the hardest part. I returned in 1999 for a day hike to this incredible peak with the best view of the rest of the GV Range. A truly magical peak.

A memorable introduction to the Rocky Mountains

I scrambled up to the top of Gros Peak in the summers of 1995 and 1996 while taking breaks from working on trails as a volunteer for the USFS (under a program sponsored by the Appalachian Mountain Club). This mountain is to me a very beautiful mountain, and the Gros Ventre Range a very beautiful range. Gros Peak was the first mountain over 11,000 feet I ever climbed, while nearby Cache Peak was the first over 10,000; these mountains gave me my first taste of mountaineering beyond simply hiking trails in the Northeast. Some of my dearest memories of the mountains come from those few weeks in this area.
