Nice hike loved the views!
Who said Texas doesn't have high peaks? Guadalupe packs a punch, and rises high from the valley below. We had great weather, though I got sunburned. Oh well, success on State HP #24. Our 4th HP out of 6 on this trip!
Hot and dusty. Beautiful views on the hike up and down. Stayed at the backcountry campsite. HP#25
A friend decided we would hike this peak on his birthday, and it was a fun time. Met two guys that were on a 13-state HP trip, several people from Midland/Odessa area, and the Lubbock-Cooper HS football team.
Nice day. Overcast on the way up that kept us cool. Then the sun came out for some nice pics at the top, but a somewhat warm hike down.
Strolled up from the Pine Springs Campground at 5:15 am. Had the trail and the peak to myself, arriving in just under 2 hours. The sky was clear in all directions. After 45 minutes on the peak, I wandered over to El Capitan and signed the log book (even though it didn't feel like the log book was at the high point). It took an hour to go from Guad Peak to El Cap.
I scrambled off-trail near El Capitan up a ridge until an eventual meeting with the trail to Guadalupe Peak. Definitely a blast. These mountains are wonderful to hike, even in the wind.
Climbed with my aunt, uncle and cousin the first time at ten years old, and then again as an adult at 26. My first peak, appropriately in my home state. Started a life time love affair, just took a while to kick in.
HOT! Brought 6 bottles of water and if a storm hadn't moved in it wouldn't have been enough. Ran into a strange, scary, dirty man at the trailhead, turns out the rangers had just sent out a party looking for him as he was mentally handicapped and had wandered away from his campsite. Have to admit, it was frightening for two female hikers alone on the trail.
Reached the summit on a very hot day for the 2012 Summit for Heroes memorial climb. Never forget!
Great way to get introduced to hiking and highpoints..especially since its my native state. Great view from atop. Strong, chilly wind hit around the 2nd big bluff. Other than that a great sunny day and experience.
Easier trail than I thought, made good time to the top. Go fairly early -- the peak gets crowded, at least during spring break. The views in any direction are worthwhile.
Nice hike but very windy weekend. Some huge cliffs on el cap and NW face of Guadalupe. Wish I had more time to check em out. Highlight was running into Rasgoat in the VC on Saturday and going up together.
Climbed on a cross country drive from Seattle to College Station. Great hike.
one of the easier state high points. some fresh snow. took me ~2.5 hrs one way from Pine Springs campground.
Hot day. Great trip with my wife Kim! Some of the best times we've had alone together.
A nice hike, but it was hot at the base. In the shade it was nice, and at the summit the wind was great.
