"As an adolescent I aspired to lasting fame, I craved factual certainty, and I thirsted for a meaningful vision of human life - so I became a scientist. This is like becoming an archbishop so you can meet girls."

Fun scrambleFun scramble up the west ridge from Hoffer lake. Descended the south ridge and went up to Angell peak. The plan was to then head west to Lees but smacked my knee after stepping in a snow well and had to head back to LG to get stitches lol.

found a knife on top of this oneThis was a great mountain to climb with my brother Jerrod early in the summer. There was a little rock scrambling to the top but the view was awesome. Green everywhere you look. We found a pocket knife up here but decided to leave it for the next lucky summiter.

South RidgeJosh and I hiked the south ridge from Angell peak. We dubbed this one "butterfly peak" because there were about 5 of them enjoying the summit views with us.

snowshoesplattski and I had a good snowshoe up this. It is fairly steep but quick. We went up the south ridge and down the west ridge a ways before dropping down the north face

Southwest "Face"Climbed up the South Ridge because we were hiking with dogs and wanted to keep it as easy as possible for them. Descended via the Southwest "face" which was much more open, much easier, more straightforward climbing. I would recommend that as an ascent route over either of the other ridges.

Good scrambleStarted from Anthony Lake, hiked past Lilypad Lake, the up the NE ridge. Steeper than expected, which was good for the two 12-year old boys I took. Rico actually led quite a bit and once I caught up with him it was too late to mention his route was too steep.

Toe testI attempted to climb this soon after I had toe surgery. I choose it due to it's apparent easy access from Anthony Lake, and beautiful aspect, but apparently it was too soon to after my operation and I wasn't able to make it very far before I had to turn around due to toe trouble. A beautiful area though to be sure and well worth a side trip if you're in the general area and are looking for a nice diversion.

My First Winter ClimbThis was the first time I had ever climbed in the winter. My friend Jim and I picked it because of the easy access. It was a graet little climb, couldn't see much due to the snow. It snowed 18 inches in the 8 hours we were up there. Still fun!

Route Climbed: Out of Hoffer Basin Date Climbed: June 2000Been to the top of Gunsight many times with Troop 514 out of La Grande, OR. Beautiful day-hike that only takes two-three hours. Hiked up out of Hoffer Basin and scrambled up into the notch of Gunsight for lunch. Did some exploring up top looking down toward Angel Basin, but returned the way I had arrived. Great weather, Anthony Lakes were bustling with activity of early-summer enthuasists but out of Hoffer Basin only saw one hiker.

Route Climbed: West Ridge Date Climbed: July 1, 2005Climbed the west ridge on a brisk morning and then scrambled across the peaks to the south before dropping down to the trail. From there I went east and south to Cunningham Saddle, then back over Angel Saddle and down the 73 trail to Anthony Lake. A great day it was.

Route Climbed: West Ridge Date Climbed: September 14, 2005I did this one as part of a 4-day trip to the Elkhorns. After camping at Summit Lake, I hiked back to the Elkhorn Crest trailhead on Forest Road 73, and still had 5 or 6 hours of daylight left so I gave this one a shot. It was hands down the most fun of the whole 50 miles covered. Fun, but not too dangerous scramble, and I still had enough time to hike The Lakes Lookout afterwards. This was certainly a little different scenery than the rest of Oregon. I hope to be back soon!
