The Big Meadow was in full effect. My guess a good 1/2 mile vis on top from smoke.

Muir trail sidetrip
Interesting start to the Muir Trail. So many people I couldn't believe it. Can't imagine what a weekend would be like. Besides the crying, lecturing, and just plain chaos. I loved it!
I love this trail. It's so cool to be so close to those huge waterfalls and I love the steepness of that part of the trail. Cables are always fun too as long as there aren't too many people.
aaawww.....my sweethearts 30th...what a special day!!!
What can I say...we were ROCKSTARS that day!!! The perfect way to ring in old age. Over the hill...who, what?!.....not us

Cable Route
I hiked up to the top of half dome with Tom, Kathy, Karen, Jim, and Alice. I started at the trailhead at 7:00AM (Happy Isles), and I was back down by 6:00PM (11 hours). I went up the Mist trail to the Half Dome Trail, and then came down the Half Dome Trail to the John Muir Trail. I got to see Half Dome, the view from Half Dome, the cables that lead up Half Dome, Nevada Fall, Vernal Fall, lllilouette Fall, Emerald Pool, Silver Apron, some amazing portions of the Merced River, and more. The hike was just a blast, and everyone in our group and everyone that we met on the way was friendly and excited to be there.
Definitely a hot and crowded hike as expected, but was awed by the gorgeous Yosemite Valley summit vistas and Nevada falls en route up the trail.

Via Cable Route before the Rain
My friend and I climbed the Cable Route in a relatively speedy day hike where we tried to beat the crowds and the weather. Sure enough, people started showing up in some force (for a week day) when we were on the way down and it was a full-on rain by the time we were descending the Mist Trail. But, it was definitely a fun time!

Snake Dike
Climbed Snake Dike with Carlos. Fun day even with the crowds. Had to wait for four parties at the base of the climb, then a ton of people on the cables to make it down. But still a great way to climb Half Dome!

End of a long trip
This was a back-up plan after I failed to get over the Red Peak Pass due to snow (and lousy routefinding..).

CablesOff Muir Trail. Rare timing: very few people joined us at the top due to the fire, which forced many to change their plans for Labor Day.
