One of my first in the park and still one of my favorites.
with Tasha, the classic routes were busy. Fun, but loose. 5.9 A0 on the crux pitch. Could use a little fixed gear manitenance.
After looking at this for years from the Y-camp, nice hike to the top from Flattop
The second peak I'd ever bagged, by way of Flattop. Impressive veiws all around, especially down.
Did a circuit up Andrews Glacier, Otis Peak, Hallett Peak, and Flattop with my husband and brother-in-law. Perfect conditions.
Did a circuit up Andrews Glacier, Otis Peak, Hallett Peak, and Flattop with my wife and brother. Perfect weather.
Hiked with my parents from Flattop Mountain. Another great hike in RNMP!
Quick hike up from Flattop, picked the wrong day as there were over 200 youth group members heading up. Eww, though that was the last I saw them.
Second time on this summit. Winter is definately nicer though.
Alot of people down at Bear Lake but everyone cleared out the further up I went. Weather was OK, not great.
Climbed the Great Dihedral and Magistrate. Fantastic Climbing.
Summited Hallett after traversing over Flattop mountain. The weather was unbelievably mild and allowed for some great views on the other RMNP peaks.
This was my first peak in Colorado. Climbed it on a vacation to Rocky Mtn Nat'l Park when I still lived in Chicago.
We (rkymtn) had an enjoyable outing on what was a beautiful day. The climb to the top of Hallett was easy compared to the couloir to get there. The Tyndall Glacier was impressive (by Colorado standards) in my opinion.
After topping out on the Dragon's Tail Couloir, Halku and I decided that we'd hit both Flattop's summit and Hallett's. The weather was great and this second summit was the icing on the cake. it was great to see Tyndall Glacier from Flattop and scope options for ascents in the future.
Total ascents to the summit = 3. First time via Flattop Trail, 2nd time from the Longs Peak Ranger Station on the Glacier Gorge Traverse, 3rd time via the East Ridge from the Lake Haiyaha Trail. I've also done the 2nd Buttress route a couple of times and Hallett Chimney, twice.
I climbed Hallet, Otis, Flattop, and Ptarmigan Point solo and was jogging down the Flattop trail when I decide it was getting too rocky to keep jogging. As I changed pace, I tripped. I picked myself up, put a bandaid on my bleeding chin, wrapped an ace bandage on my right thigh where it was bruised, and rubbed my right wrist were it hurt. I hiked the rest of the way to the parking lot and drove my stick shift car home before I realized that my right arm was broken.
This was the first peak I climbed in Colorado since I wanted to start out on something with a little less elevation than a 14er. There was beautiful scenery all around of Rocky Mountain National Park, especially with all of the lakes in the area. Lots of snow on Flattop slowed our group down a bit. Upon reaching the summit I saw Longs Peak and made it my goal to climb that peak as well.
One of the finest climbs I've ever done. Second try.
Climbed this route just days before the giant block fell off, essentially erasing this route. That second pitch did seem a bit loose!
My first foray with an ice axe. Luckily I did not kill myself.
