Harsh Paintbrush (Castilleja hispida)
Castilleja hispida is a common species of grasslands and open forests of lower to mid-elevations of most of the inland northwest U.S. It is generally red or orange, but yellow plants are not too uncommon. This photo was taken on Kamiak Butte in eastern Washington State.
