Beautiful Pinnacles - Shock and Haw
What I thought would be a 'B List' hike after climbing some other mountains in the area was stunning - getting to the top I was greeted by fog filled valleys and mountains emerging from the low clouds. Great views. From Massie Gap with Listening Rock and the Little Pinnacle in a nice loop.

Sidetrip from AT NoBo
Grateful we had clear, beautiful weather this day! Definitely worth a side-trip.

Route Climbed: From Massie Gap
Was going to do Mount Rogers, but we (my friend and I) got there late and a thunderstorm was rolling in. We wanted to do some hiking, so we did Haw Orchard instead. It was great. Went back up the next morning with my wife. Camped overnight. It was a great stay.

Not Quite Winter Yet
After hiking to Mt Rogers, took a little lunch break, then went up Haw Orchard Mountain via Massies Gap. Short, steep trail with great views since the clouds dissapated earlier.

With the Family
Took the trail up from Massie Gap. My little 4 year old boy made it no problem. I tell you what it won't be long and I'll be the one slowing him up:) Beautiful views all around especially across to Wilburn Ridge and Mt. Rogers. A big hit with the family!

I climb Haw Orchard every December when I go to Sparta NC to cut a xmas tree. And almost every year it is either snowing, or has just snowed. This winter was the best snowfall I've ever encountered in Grayson Highlands--about a foot had just fallen.
