In the mid-90s, before getting into alpinism, watched the fall raptor migration here. Quite splendid!

great fall day
Great family hike. We went to the top, but came back the way we went up. We wanted to keep going but the trail was too steep going down to the skyline trail(we have a baby backpack). It was a wonderful afternoon. Educational too. Lots of bird info.

Started at Vistors Center - Lookout Trail to split off at Escarpment Trail - Split off right to River of Rocks Trail - Split off left to Golden Eagle to gain ridge - Followed Skyline to East Rocks and doubled back up the ridge to North Rocks and back down Lookout Trail - 1325' elev gained in a couple hours.
I haven't been up there in a while, but this was one of the best hikes close to Philadelphia. You could sit on the rocks overlooking the North side with great views. Hawks will frequently fly near you.

Beautiful day that was spring like. I had the whole mountain to myself and the views were the best in PA I've seen. I saw tons of raptors all over the place! Wonderful place and hope to go back a lot!

Worth the DonationWorth the $7 donation to the sanctuary, or even the long hike up the AT to the main rock pile.

River of RocksClimbed this in the 1990s as a kid ... loved the river of rocks and the escarpment trail. Boulder hopping was one of my favorite past times!
