Helicopter Rescue

Being hauled off by heli after breaking an ankle on the trail down from Gran Paradiso...did I mention it was on the trail!! Oh, and never did make the summit due to the onset of a storm...now there's a day I should have never bothered getting out of bed..

Re: Ouch !

Surprisingly, none of this hurt, so far. But from experience I know it's coming, when those big bad physiotherapists get a hold of me! Thanks for your good wishes.

Question:

How did you get hold of the helicopter? Hope your doing better. Get well!

Re: Question:

I was with a guide who had GPS. He called for rescue, told them our co-ordinates and they came to the exact spot in less than 20 minutes. Pretty amazing really. The medics were so nice to me and, in Italy, the rescue was free. I was very grateful! I am much better now, thank you, cast just came off, so... time to plan my next trip!

Re: EVAC

Oh yes, it could have been my eating hand!:-) But yes, considering what could have happened, I consider myself pretty lucky.

Climbing is...

DANGEROUS. Hiking is dangerous! Crossing the road is dangerous! Posting a COMMENT on SP is dangerous! But ... the REWARDS are obvious!!! Did everything come out okay???

Playing with your dog is dangerous!!!

Re: Climbing is...

Six weeks in a cast, few weeks of rehab..and I am back on 2 feet! This is actually the 2nd time I broke an ankle, the first was right after getting home from a climbing trip and slipping while playing with my dog in the yard...so add playing with your dog to the list of very dangerous things in life!

Come on, you can tell us the truth

You were tired from hiking and you wanted a ride down. Right?
