You got me! Actually, this is a short tunnel for the ore cars at the Anniversary (Borax) Mine circa 1921. They had to drill through the "steeply tilted strata" or FINS to get to the pockets of Borax crystals.

Yes, I went inside - I couldn't resist the temptation! If somebody was dangling a carrot in front of my nose, I would have took that too! The desert is heating up !!!
