Destination Lookout  Sucess!

Headed up there to help out with some general maintenance of the lookout. That was the destination so I do not think I actually summited the main "Hidden Lake Peak". I did however scramble up to the highest point there at the lookout. I love that lake!

Route Climbed: Standard Date Climbed: August 7, 2010  Sucess!

Took my Mom up this hike for a change in scenery, as I lived in the Diablo/Ross Lake region of the North Cascades National Park for the past year and hadn't explored as much up the Cascade River Road. Hidden Lake Peaks lookout was amazing. Spectacular day with a short, but scenically varied trail. I loved reaching the upper boulder fields with the streams passing through the trail. Amazing. I'll do it again for fun someday soon!

Route climbed - standard trail  Sucess!

How many times have i driven past this trailhead on the way to Cascade Pass? Nice little climb/boulder hop with the Mazamas. Lovely day with a turn in the weather lurking in the air.

Hidden Lake Peak 7088  Sucess!

We took advantage of modest snow levels for December and drove to the last switchback on the road. Walked the road, then the trail, then into the drainage. There was evidence of large avy activity already this winter in this drainage but those dangerous slopes were now mostly bare and it was cold which made us relatively unconcerned on this day. But in general this could be a risky area. Hoofed it up the drainage, traversed S for a bit and then hit the ridge at 6200. Hiked up the chilly ridgeline to the top. Fantastic views on a clear cold winter day. Too bad my camera died in the cold. Great hike. Snow conditions are crappy with hard snow, ice, wind scoured crust. No need for snowshoes but we used crampons and axes.

I also visited the lookout site in summer around maybe 2005.

Both Summits  Sucess!

Both peaks were totally socked in, so I'll have to go back.

Beautiful views  Sucess!

I climbed this peak way before I knew what SP was- back in the summer of '03. Other than the unsightly gash that the trail cuts across the side of the hill on the way up, the views are just amazing.

Route Climbed: Sibley Creek  Sucess!

Started where the Cascade River Rd was no longer plowed at MP 7. This added 3+ miles of road walking, but I turned and went straight up the ridge and cut off the entire Sibley Creek Rd and trail. It was a long 14 miles and 6100' of gain but well worth it...spectacular views! Didn't bother going to the lookout.

Triple Play  Sucess!

Climbed to the Hidden Peak lookout. I am a ridge and rock lover, but for the first time ever (20 years of hiking) I was awestruck by wildflowers. They are incredible here in August! The view is crazy beatiful, and the lookout itself was very interesting. It was the first one I had been in that really showed me beauty and the danger of these places. I learned what a lightning stool is...

Spring Snowboarding

Hiked up the sibley creek basin after hiking an extra 1 1/2 miles or so from the road washout. I wish they would teach people how to build culverts and this problem wouldn't happen as much. Anyway, there is still TONS of snow left up there and even if the road wasn't washed out its still impassible most of the way due to snow. The weather moved in on us a few times while on the mntn and left us in a total white out at least 4 times, once for over 30 min!!! The snow was great though, and nice and stable too! Tons of powder at the top from the last few days. Most definately worth the hike and will be doing it again very soon. Great Spring backcountry experience!

A favorite  Sucess!

I've done this one a few times, and it's been worth it everytime. The one drawback is that the drainage basin can be very buggy in late summer--come prepared.

Route Climbed: Both main summit ridges Date Climbed: August 2001  Sucess!

Great wildflowers in the meadowy valley on approach. Went up to sibley pass and scrambled entire NE ridgeline to summit. Very fun granodiorite blocks. Exceptional views for a full 360 pan of Baker, Shucksan, Pickets, Eldorado, Forbidden, Sahale, Formidable, Joberg, Snowking, Whitehorse. Mid-elevation mountain among higher peaks so all the other kings look really jagged. Scrambled down shorter SW ridgeline to saddle and trail through boulder strewn meadows. Beautiful lake below, very photogenic. Very enjoyable mountain, have done a few times.
