Highline Trail  Sucess!

I hiked the entire Highline trail and then some, starting on Hwy 44 near Elk Park and Flaming Gorge and ending at the Mirror Lake Hwy. The route took me four nights. The first part of my route took me on forest roads and then a steep trail up to the east slope of Leidy Peak where I met the 'official' Highline Trail. The Highline is fantastic, one of the highlights of my 1700 mile walk around the Colorado Plateau in 2001 (The Everett Ruess Trail). The Uintas are so hiker friendly--not as steep, narrow, or dark as other Rocky Mountain ranges. From what I understand of geology, this is because the Uintas, like the Appalachia Mtns, are a very old range compared to more recent ranges such as the Sierras and Rocky Mtns. I spent an amazing night sans tent camped at the very top of Dead Horse Pass-just awesome.

Re: Highline Trail

You hiked the Highline in 4 nights? Geez! I started at the West Fork of the Whitereocks TH (southwest of Chepeta Lake), and it still took 7 nights. You're an an animal!
