round trip with ski  Sucess!

I stayed over Easter with my alpine club's group at Langtalereck hut (on the Austrian side, NW of the mountain). The ski route from there first follows the valley to Langtaler Ferner, then climbs the western glacier to the plain (P. 3422m) between Hinterer and Mittlerer Seelenkogel and from there with ski over the final slope to the summit cross. For downhill our group devided: half of them took the same route back. Reimar, Doris, Andreas and I took downhill to the east over steep Planferner glacier, then had a short ascent to Rotmoosjoch. Downhill from there to the north over Rotmoosferner glacier had absolutely perfect powder conditions. After a beer at Schönwies hut we had to walk back another hour to Langtalereck hut. Great day!

A great start!  Sucess!

It was the first summit on a five day tour. We actually postponed the tour for a day because it was raining, and the forecast said it would get better.

In the morning, it was still pretty poor. We took the cable car from Obergurgl to Hohe Mut. It was misty up there. However, as soon as we crossed the border at the Rotmoosjoch, we were treated to sunshine and it stayed that way for the next four days :-)

Hinterer Seelenkogel, August 1994

I went up the normal route, starting at midday in Pfelders, going up via Zwickauer Hütte and arriving at the summit towards the evening. Was a rather awesome feeling, being alone on the summit in the midst of the wild glacial world of the Ötztal Alps - and at the same time hearing the sounds of the band playing for a village festivity down in Pfelders! Spent a night in Zwickauer Hütte, went back up Hinterer Seelenkogel early the next morning, then hiked on to Stettiner Hütte. The weather was fantastic, the view a dream!
