Approach
Abtenau may be reached by public busses that leave from Golling.
By car:
from the north: leave the motorway A10 at Golling and follow the main road to Abtenau
from the south: leave the motorway A10 at the exit Hüttau, Lammertal and follow the main road via st. Martin and Annaberg to Abtenau
Route Description
The route starts right at Abtenau. To shorten the ascent you may drive up to the Karalm (1004m a.s.l). It is also possible to take the chairlift that operates in summer as well.
From the Karalm follow the marked path to the Wandalm and Laufener Hut (1721m) 1,5 - 2h from Karalm.
From the Laufener Hut take the marked path leading to the south-east into the notch between Edelweisskogel and Hochkarfelderkopf.
The last 900m will take you over the gentle south-west ridge to the summit (1h from the hut).
Essential Gear
No special gear necessary. You will need the typical equippment for a high- Alpine hike but no ropes or crampons.
In case of low danger of avalanches you can do this tour in winter too. Best months are usually from February till beginning of May
