North Ridge  Sucess!

Climbed Norh Ridge. Absolutely gorgeous area. Had a bit of difficulty moving quickly as the route demanded a lot of focus. Random weather, clear, overcast, snow, then blue sky. The mosquitos were a huge problem -- they latched onto me while descending to cross creek and harassed me up to 13K!!

Capped off a huge week with a run up  Sucess!

Climbed 17,000 vertical feet in the last week! Longs Peak started it all on my birthday 6 days ago. Then we backpacked a full circumnav of Mount of the Holy Cross all week. Did 20 miles yesterday, slept at the trailhead, and then woke up and started running. Plan was to go down Halo Ridge, but met a guy on the way up who was bloodied up and who told me not to go down that way if I wanted to make it back in time, so I course corrected. Totally hit a wall on the stupid 1000 ft re-climb on the descent. Still can't believe there's no trail out to that ridiculous waterfall.

Brutal day via Halo Ridge  Sucess!

The good, I made it, #30. The bad, the lack of a defined route and the huge boulders along the Halo Ridge really make for slow going. Even the ridge walk that is flat and that you see from Notch Mountain Shelter and think to yourself, "I can make up some time there," is full of boulders and talus that slow you down. This route is definitely not to be taken lightly.

The Best 14er out of my 19 so Far  Sucess!

Stayed at the TH the night before. On the trail by 4:30 am. This is definitely my favorite 14er so far. The views from the trail before dipping into East Cross Creek may even top views of Longs from Mount Lady Washington. It was a low wind day with sunny skies. We were tempted to do the Halo Ridge traverse on the way back but decided against it. Back to the car before noon. 14er #19.

North Ridge  Sucess!

Great hike, but like everyone else, not a fan of the 1000 foot drop on the way there.

boyf's birthday hike  Sucess!

My boyfriend loves the high alpine, so we tackled this one for his 28th. We went with some friends and backpacked into the campsites Friday evening, summited early Saturday morning, and made it back to the car around lunch time. I dislocated my hip skiing a few years ago, and for the first time since, it was tremendously cranky. The rayleigh scattering, dawn alpenglow, and vistas helped even out the scale, though.

Good way to spend a Thursday  Sucess!

I went up the normal route and down Halo Ridge. Halo Ridge is LONG. But easy. I left car at 630, summitted at 930 and got back down Halo Ridge and to my car at 2:30. I was proud of that sort of short day until I read how fast some of these other animals summitted. That is why I love Colorado- someone always sets the bar high!

#46 Columbia + Harvard + Holy Cross in 1 day lol  Sucess!

I rushed to the TH at 3:30pm and thought I totally have enough time to car-to-car before dark. With great determination I got back before 8pm with an average pace of 21 minutes :) The turn at mile 3.6 revealing the Mountain itself is akin to emerging out of the tunnel in Yosemite–an unbelievable vista with impossible proportions.

This is my favorite 14er to date.

Kicked my ass  Sucess!

First summit of fall vacation and you could tell I came from 400 feet only two days before. Six hours and forty minutes up, twenty minutes on top, and four hours and fifty minutes back down. If the weather wasn't perfect I never would have been able to pull it off.

Half Moon trail up & down  Sucess!

#1 7-8-16 W/ Brent & Yz. Up in 5+21, taking our time. Touched snow one time only - the upper edge of the Angelica Couloir. Breathtaking views of the mountain on the descent from Half Moon Pass enervate one like nothing else. Fabulous trail maintenance makes what could be a difficult hike into a pleasurable experience. The final scramble up to the summit was just plain fun. Look forward to doing Angelica and Cross Couloirs next year. Saw marmots by the dozen, chipmunks, field mice and ptarmigans. Final 14er (5th) of seven great days in south central Colorado. At the TH after the hike some generous hikers about to leave for the East Cross Creek camping area shared watermelon with us, and watermelon has never tasted so good. Thanks to them!
