Angelica Halo Loop  Sucess!

My first snow climb on a fantastic Independence Day. A very nice climb, perfect for a beginner. I led the bootpack for most of the way up, and loved every second. Descended along the Halo Ridge, which made for excellent views, but left me completely gassed. Elected to come down the trail from the Notch Mountain Shelter rather than navigate the notch, which didn't seem like a good idea for an exausted climber. Skies so clear that I wished for clouds to keep the sun from beating on me. Holy Mosquitos! Bring some bug spray for this one, and try not to stop too much, because the bugs will zero in on you quick.

Via Halo Ridge  Sucess!

Spent the night in Notch Mtn's shelter which is something I've been wanting to do since learning of it's existance some years ago. Glad I finally did.

Celebrating the 4th of July on MHC!  Sucess!

MHC is perhaps the prettiest mountain in Colorado! This was my second summit of MHC via the standard route. Went with fellow SPer and good friend shanrickv (aka Patrick) and had a fantastic, yet long day from the TH to the summit and back. Also had the honor of meeting 6-year Colorado phenom - Kessler!

Holy Cross  Sucess!

July 3 2008:

Six year old Kessler left the trailhead in the afternoon and backpacked over Halfmoon Pass and over to Cross Creek where we camped. There were several snowfields to hike across. The stream was really high which made for an interesting crossing. We had a nice camp at Cross Creek.

July 4 2008:

At 6:15 am we left for the summit of Mount of the Holy Cross. We reached the top just before 11 am, but spent over an hour on the summit on a bluebird day. We hiked down the mountain and packed up camp and at an early dinner before climbing back over Halfmoon Pass. We had a second dinner on Halfmoon Pass and didn’t arrive back at the trailhead until 7:30 PM, over a 13 hour day, though we took our time on the climb out over Halfmoon Pass and down to the trailhead. With 4300 feet (1310 meters) altitude gain and 4800 feet (1460 meters) of descent on day 2 the peak was a hard earned prize for any six year old.

This was my third time climbing Holy Cross. The bugs were annoying on this hike below treeline. We also included UN 13831, which is a high 100.

Halo Ridge  Sucess!

Climbed with a couple of buddies from 14ers.com. Cold, cold morning with mist, fog, and low clouds. Long, painful descent of the standard route, but well worth it.

Halo Ridge route  Sucess!

Beautiful sunny day. Hot even. Still a lot of snow on the mountains, but we didn't come across any on our route. The view of the Cross from across the Bowl of Tears is spectacular, something you cannot see from the standard route up Holy Cross.

Cross  Sucess!

did the cross couloir late in the spring of last year. Quite a fun experience. we took the normal route back down. I want to go back to that area and do the 13er that is just to the SE of Holy Cross. I forget the name of it right now. That couloir that you can see from the bottom of the cross couloir looks like a real trip. steep and fun.
